-
hmmm didn't u buy the car from a really dodgy geezer :D
-
i know but im not allowed to mention his name ;)
-
One of your cylinders isn't firing.
-
could that be down to a spak plug problem as the new one didnt go in quite right but had no choice
-
didnt go in right?
is the thread on that one totally knackered up then ?
-
Don't know much about cars but this could be due to the HT leads, have they been fitted back into the same position?
-
You saying you the spark plug is cross threaded? it won't seal if it is.
You might be able to repair the thread, otherwise new head.
-
yeah ht leads when back in ok and the thread for one of the spark plugs does look a bit worn....what would i need to do to fix it
-
Go look in halfords, they should do something for the thread, depends how far gone it is.
Not being funny, but surely its quite hard to cross thread a spark plug on an 8v engine.
You saying that some dodgey muppet has done it before you? must have done the job in a hurry :D
-
there's a comment to be made bout person who had car b4 u :D
I'm sure he didn't do it though!
-
could this be another common fault with mk2's?
mine was like that for a few days and then conked out completely and never started for 3 weeks :o
-
Sound like you might have got the HT leads on the wrong way round?
-
right update im the muppet who fit them ;) taken them all out and redone the plugs and leads yet again all in perfect still same problem cutting out etc etc but theres a hissing noise coming from the petrol tank area? :o

plugs are about a year old i reckon so thats not his fault probably mine just pissing me off now!!!! any other car would have been in the scrap yard by now
-
How much did u pay for your spary? Did u have any rust etc treated aswell ?
-
are you sure you've put the leads back on in the right order?
-
Take the plugs out and check the gaps.
Steve.
-
im just guessing...Ignition coil maybe?
-
Try unplugging each ht lead one at a time when the engine is running (MAKE SURE YOU USE A WELL INSULATED TOOL TO DO THIS).
See if the engine slows down with any of the leads disconnected, if any of them make no difference then you have found your problem.
-
I dont think that its one of the spark plugs. Maybe two, or firing in the wrong order. I say this because my car runs with no real problems with only three plugs. But it may be different with an 8 valve, all though i wouldn't have thought so? With two plugs, then it starts to do the things you said....

right its officialim thick!!!! HT leads on wrong ::) ::) ::)
