Title: Breaking into a MK3
Post by: Wannabe024 on 30 March 2004, 13:27
Hi,

I replaced my outside door handles with MK4 polo ones to de-lock the car. All was fine for a few months and now the pax side door won't open. Remote central locking seems to work fine. The fob opens the drivers door and the boot and seems to open the pax door (pin comes up).

When I try to open the door from the internal or external handles nothing happens. I'm fairly sure this is a central locking problem now. I have read that something can snap off in the door lock and cause this problem and that it's a cheap fix.

My question is HOW DO I GET THE DOOR OPEN?  :'(

Thanks

Just edited the above post. Can anyone help?

I've got to pick my Gran up tomorrow and at the moment I'm preparing the roofbars.

Thanks

is there the space to get the inside door trim panel off? hopefully if you can get that off you can get to the door mechanism, good luck  :)

No. I've tried getting the trim off. I can't get to the clips at the front or the back of the panel. To get it off I'd have to break the panel (???).

If its a lock problem your describing (I'm not that clear), why not try a slim-jim and 'break' into your car.

If its the linkage to the handle fallen off, dude, your SOL.

I've got some of the door panel off with minimal damage. I can see the door lock, but it is still slightly obscured.

Does anyone know what I have to move on the lock to get it open?

Cheers

Yea the thing, no, no, the other thing...  ;)

It' been a while since I looked, but there might be a clip holding the lock assembly on, pull of the clip the lock should be free and you can use a screwdriver to do the rest from the outside.

On second thought, look in the bently  :-X

Thanks.

I'll give it a go today. I'm pretty sure it's due to a part breaking off of the lock now. This means a new lock or a visit to the scrappy.

I've now gotta decide whether to keep the Polo Mk4 door handles or go back to my newly colour coded Mk3 ones.
