Hi guys, my rear passenger side coilover is banging on bumps, I have taken this shot from inside the boot and you can see the big rubber bump stop isn't sitting in the cup properly.
anyone know how to rectify this?!

do I need to adjust something under the wheel arch to eliminiate the play?

From memory there is another rubber of similar design under the arch and it may have perished and fallen off. Jack the car up and have a look under the arches on both sides to compare. If all looks OK take the parcel shelf support off and do up the nut on top of the strut until the rubber is back in place. that should sort you out.

Thanks mate, the reason I am reluctant to do up the top nut is cos the other shock has the smae amount of thread sticking out the top, so I presume they are balanced.
I will look under it this weekend.

there is a small cir clip on the top of the pistoton, just below the threads. happened me

whats the solution paul? do the shocks need removing and all that jazz?
You are talking about coil overs not standard setup right?
-
yes they will need removing. there is a groove in the piston, and in there they should be a cir clip.they only cost 30p or so from vw
-
this is where the cir clip goes as i had the same problem

just to re-iterate, I have aftermarket adjustable coil overs.
So would this be the same problem/part number?
Thanks for all the advice guys.

PS Daniel: in the picture of yours, it looks like you could just stick the circlip back on there without removing the shock. Am i right?

u hav to take the shock out as there is a washer that sits on top of the circlip that stops it going thru the top mount number nine in the picture but u shudnt need it. u can only get the circlip from a vw dealer i think it was 48p + vat
