hi im new to this forum and i was after some info on a engine i have. Ok basicly its a 2.1 16v turbo with a crossflow head and i am wanting to put it in my golf mk2 gti. Its a 1990 digifant injection and just wanted to know if i have to change wiring loom and what other things thanks stefan

Full engine loom, ECU, Drive shafts mabey? Dash clocks, Gear links (some are cable) and hydralic clutch setup if applicable. Im not sure on the specifics of your car and engine
-
hi thanks for the reply, i was thinking bout keeping the same gearbox as i have now.? sorry if this is a stuipd question but why do i need the dash clocks? At the moment my engine is a PB engine 1.8 8v digifant. thanks
-
Sorry, if the engine is out of a MK3 and or going into a Mk3 you dont need the clocks, If you are fitting a Mk3 engine to a Mk2 you would need them idealy.
I dont understand what enging you have? Is it a Mk3 GTI engine? If thats the case you just need the loom and ECU. Some of the gearboxes were diffrent so needed diffrent length drive shafts.
-
sorry i didnt explain very well, its a mk2 16v engine goin into a mk2 basicly 8v to 16v thanks
-
Ah rite in that case just the ECU and Loom should do it.
-
is there a difference then in looms, and is it just 1 loom? thanks
-
Yea there would be a diffrence in looms, You might get away with just the engine loom which runs arround the bay, or you might need to put a whole new loom in behind the dash, it depends on the ECU etc..
-
im sure you can buy like a "plug and play" style loom off ebay for this conversion..duno bout when you start messing with turbos tho sorry

Ive know decieded against that engine and im going to turbo the engine i already have in 1.8 8v i have found this kit for a corrado g60 i have emailed them asking if it would fit my golf mk2 1.8 8v and they said yes just the intercooler pipes will need modifying? is this kit ok and should i change pistons? http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-VVW-109&Category_Code=VVWTK thanks again

you'll need to do something to drop the compression, boost on a std 8v engine will blow it up quickly! 2 G60 metal gaskets should do it, either that or new pistons. Depends on the boost levels you plan to run! remember the std 8v lump isnt designed for boost really, not like the G60 bottom end which has oil squirters for the pistons n stuff like that.
-
so if i get some low compression pistons and 2 metal head gaskets it will be ok? or will the g60 pistons fit? thanks
-
you use one or the other, not both ;)
g60 pistons would fit yes, but you might as well just get a G60 block tbh, much less hassle. New pistons need the block honing, then you still have the lack of oil squirters which might casue you greif later on down the line. A G60 head would be good to have too they have sodium filled valves. You at least need the G60 cam or sports G60 cam, as the std GTI one wont be right for boost. Its a little known fact the G60 cam isnt as agressive as the GTI one, too agressive cam means you loose boost out the zaust!
-
ok thanks for the reply will i need to change wiring loom for a g60 engine?
-
yep, then std loom is in no way suitable for boost :)
-
Thats what i didnt want to have to do, hense why i was goin to turbo the engine i already have in.
-
sounds like a propa nightmare to do all this..1.8 20v seems the easiest option
-
agree'd^ except i aint got a turbo in my new one hahah!
