Title: Idle problems, help plse!!!!!
Post by: elthespaniard on 03 February 2008, 20:29
Hello guys,

slight problem, nothing to serious, i hope lol!!!

My Idle switch keeps running loose. The revs go from being around 900rpm, to 1300rpm. Thats idling quite high, too high, its buggering the fuel consumption, so i keep turning the idle switch down, bringing the idle back down to 900rpm and for a few days its ok, then the revs are back up!!!

If i turn the idle switch all the way down till it wont rotate antmore, ill drive the car for a bit, and as i slow down the engine will cut out, so obviously i have to rotate the switch up a bit, and then the car drives fine but im back to the original problem.

Does anyone have the same problem or can any1 gimme a hand with what to do????

Cheers peeps!!!!

Any help will be much appreciated

Is it a 16v? if so it could be the temp sender that controls the ISV or the ISV needs a clean :)

Do you mean that you set the idle to the right amount, then over a short period of time it starts rising?

If so... I would check the rubber o-ring on the idle screw. If its perished, the screw might not be secure anymore.

Yeah I was a bit like that as well but I swapped them around and hey ho the dash sender reads low and the car doesn't rev randomly anymore :)

It's one of those things you don't think of but when I did it made sense. The ecu and ISV are told the engine is cold so it adjusts to that but it is warm so it goes random!
