Newly fitted 19x8 CMS C8 alloys. They're stunning when the light catches them. They can look a little grey when in the shade but I’m very happy and I think they really suit the car. The 235/35 profile of the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres looks perfect. They're not too “rubber band†and not too chunky either. I’ve only driven 130 miles on them so far but even at this stage they offer good levels of grip. The ride is a little firmer but that’s a good thing as there’s now more information coming through the steering wheel. Road noise is up ever so slightly but it’s not intrusive.
I have however had the rears rub a couple of times. On both occasions, it happened when the car squatted after coming down from a hump at higher speed. I’d obviously hoped this wouldn’t happen but I’m sure it can be remedied.
Overall, I’m delighted with my first mod! Here are a few pics...

Looks spot on Dave.

....They suit the R32 extremely well.
One of the distinctive features of both the Mk4 and Mk5 R32's is the 'multi-spoke' look and your choice keeps that 'tradition'.
Seeing that first pic has confirmed in my mind that I'll choose the R32 rear valance to go with my R32 sides on my GTI (in another thread) - Thanks!
-
Really good choice, suit the car and the colour perfectly.
-
Dave...we meet again lol...guess il see your pics here before www.r32oc.com....but yeah it does look very very nice....any issues with rubbing whilst turning etc, apart from the hump??
-
The rubbiing could just be down to your tyre choice, different makes are slightly different shapes. A friend of mine has a mk5 GTi on 19's and its lowered, when he was running Toyo Tir's there was no rubbing, he replaced the fronts with the Michelin PS2 and they rub quite badly and have damaged his arches. When you compare the tyres you can see the Michelins have a much squarer sidewall.
O yes, the wheels look mint!
-
....Also, a 'high jump' with most cars may result in a tyre rub. It's when you aren't anywhere near any limit and it happens that you need to do something about it. If mine start to rub I know I'm pushing too hard (road use).
-
they look smashing!
They suit the car very well.
R32's are the bees knees

I thought that they were all round?? Just Joking
Looks Very nice Dave.
-
wheels look superb  good choice :afro:
-
....Okay, I think Dave will now have got the message that we all approve and he's allowed to keep them
-
Wow, thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. Hi Manu, they don't rub on cornering. Glad I can keep them RedRobin ;-)
Does anyone have any advice on how to stop the rubbing? It’s happened about 8-9 times (once at the front) in 200 miles so I do need to sort it.
Would a set of coilovers be able to prevent it?
Are there any modifications I can make to the wheel arch?
Thanks
Dave

looks very very nice
-
I'm not usually a fan of after market wheels but they look stunning and perfectly compiment that gorgeous blue colour. I love the Mk V R32 !
-
Oh yes, abig thumbs up from me.
-
sweet
-
you could put kw variant 3 coilovers on it? they would allow you to camber the wheel to avoid the rub? they are called variant 3 cos you can adjust three things...ride height, rebound( i think) and camber...
it important that you get the multi adjustable ones as just normail coilovers ( variant 1's or eibach prostreet) will just be ride height adjustable and would only make things worse...
i haved this set up on my m3 CSL and its the nuts....

That car looks awesome!
Most people go for the RS4 Reps but this really looks
About the rubbing...
Cant you use spacers? I think thats what they are called?
Help anyone?
Mike
-
Spacers will make it worse, its the camber settings that need adjusted.
-
Would you mind explaining what spacers are?
Not being rude, but perhaps I have the wrong thing in mind. :undecided:
-
Putting a spacer behind your wheel means your alloys will stick out by the wheel arches.
-
Thanks
Now I understand
-
....IF you fit spacers to a GTI, it's very important that you only fit the 'hubcentric' type.
Frankly I wouldn't entertain the idea of fitting any spacers without consulting someone who really knows about setting up suspension and has laser technology tracking equipment. You can easily make a suspension worse if you don't know exactly what you are doing. It's not just a matter of fitting parts which have names like 'coil over' and 'spacer'.
Consult an expert!

Very nice!! 19'S just seem to fill the arches soooo well
-
i would be tempted to put 225 tyres on it instead of the 235 that little bit would probably stop the rubbing

But then the rolling circumference would be different  and you'd have 20mm less grip
-
235 is the width
35 is the profile/thickness which would affect the circumference
but you are right about the grip in a way but it would not make much difference really

Size Coding Revealed
A tyre is referenced as "185/60R/15H", here is an explanation.
A/B/C
A = Width of Tyre (mm)
In this example it shows that the tyre is 185mm wide.
B = Profile as a % of width.
(i.e. profile is 60% of width)
In this example the ratio is 60%. This works out as 111mm.
C = Diameter of inner rim.
In this example it shows that the rim is 15" in diameter.
From this you can also work out your rolling circumference.
e.g. (2 x B) + C = diameter = d
therefore (2 x 111 = 222) + (15" x 25.4 = 381) = 603mm
circumference = pi x d = 3.142 x 603 = 1895mm

Sorry I didn't explain fully. :embarassed:
If you move from 235mm width to 225mm width you will alter the rolling circumference as the profile is a ratio of the width.
235 x 35 means the wall is 35% of the width
If you moved to 225 the wall would change as a ratio and that is what would affect the rolling circumference. It isn't a vast amount, but is something to consider when trying to fill the arches
-
yep
-
What offset are they?
I have 18x8 on my GTI, and would like to fit 235s when I replace the tyres, but I'm not sure if that little bit of extra width will cause them to rub. Yours look like they are about a 40 offset?
