Hope somebody can help as this is driving me mad, I've got a rattle coming from the back seat area I think, maybe righthand side, top of the rear seat. The seat is latched correctly so its not that, please help
-
Could be the metal part of the seatbelt clanking against the plastic side section. I would try fastening the seatbelts in the rear to their locks and see if it cures it. If it doesn't it could be that the rear parcel shelf has come out of its hinged housing and rattling against the plastic section which it sits on.

Thanx for speedy reply, I've tried both of those things
-
Have you unlatched it and then slammed it back again?
-
sounds naff but, try a bit of tape around the metal hook on the seat catch or a piece of cloth, only a thin bit so the catch still works!
-
I've tried slamming it. I've had the girlfriend driving with me sat in the back and I still can't find it. I'll try packing the latch out a bit, its worth a try.
-
What about the bit where the opening behind the rear armrest is. That comes undone and is a bit of a pig to clip in again.

Hi All,
First post so please be kind.
I have a rattle on my ED30, when at low RPM's it sounds like something loose, I have tracked it down ski hatch. If I undo and push the back plastic bit back in it stop's for a few days. Today I have just released it (hole through to boot) no more rattle
This took me ages to track down, sounds like a loose piece of trim in or under the car (especially when reversing)
Hope this helps.

sounds just like this, i'll try it hope your right, if you are top first post cheers

Hey,
I have a mk4 and whenever I fold down the rear seats I have to put up with a rattle for about a week after putting them back up. They are recarro's if this makes a difference.
No help here  but did you just start to notice this after folding the seat down?

Dammit, I have the same exact problem! Cannot place the rattle though. Drives me nuts. Maybe it's the shelf? :undecided:

mine has started to rattel within the head unit

Our RCD300 has a very slight rattle when cold. We're not sure how long we'll keep hold of it - we ordered the base spec to upgrade the stereo later. It's the only 'fault' so far, which isn't bad considering the issues old peugeots had from new.
-
yep, indeed, it was the shelf. Came off the hinge on the right side. Pushed it back, now everything is fine.

Are you sure its not from just above the headunit, there is a well known problem and fix for this 1

It's hard to tell - we've not bothered investigating yet because it goes away once the car's warmed up. What's the well known problem and fix? If it means taking the dash bits off, we might just wait until we get our hands on a new stereo and sort it then... I don't have the torx screwdrivers yet.
-
yes it means removing the vents above the stereo and wedging some packing in a certain spot, I've got a link somewhere I'll find it and post

I don't have the torx screwdrivers yet.MY old lupo gti used to do this only when the heaters were on full to the windscreen ,it was causing the plastic dash to expand slightly when it got realy warm, turning the heaters down slightly stopped the noise.

I will try 16MPG's suggestion tonight, I too have had a bad Squeeking from the back, more so when the body flexes when reversing. I tried putting silicone on the parcel shelf but I still have the bloody squeek. At this rate I may be checking myself into a special hospital soon!

I had this problem even after the latch was replaced, I then put the seat down and wrapped the latch loop with gaffer tape and closed the seat back. It has not rattled since. Some guys on vwvortex used "hockey tape", I found that the gaffer tape rather then insulation tape was best as its stronger.

I thought VW used to pride itself with rattle and squeak free cars with the advert with the squeaking earings. Its sooo annoying when you get a rattle and im getting worried hearing some are having to pack out the dash or use gaffer tape. Where has the build quality gone
