guys/gals, i vetried taking off the alternator on my mk1 and i think the thread on the allen key bolt near the cam belt is knackered as the bolt is tight as ****, whats the best way of getting this out?
cheers

Hi Alps, If this is the lower alternator bolt I would take off the cam belt cover, remove the top alternator adjusting bracket and try to get a good (not worn) 8mm? allen key and push the alternator towards the engine as you try to undo the bolt. Hope this helps.

I feel your pain alps. I had the same thing recently. took a while but we got it off in the end and nipped to the scapper for another one.

cheers guys, already have the spare bolt will need to spend a bit of time doing this is think! may pop to halfords and get a 8mm allen key socket to make life easier!
i`ll let you all know how i get on!

just slide a bit of piping/tubing over the allen key to make the lever longer, thus easier to turn.

done that, bent the normal L shaped Allen key!
