ok, heres the deal, ive bin offered a mk2 gti 8v mint for 500quid! its a mates mates car and it taking up his drive space (already has 3 other golfs!) anyway wot i was asking is is there any way i can cancel my current insurance C.I.S i've bin wiv them 4 bout 2years 6months, but would never b able 2 afford their quote 4 the gti as i need 2 find a cheaper insurance company as im only 20 (b 21 in under a month!) bin driving 2 years 6months wiv 1 yrs ncb, but as my pocily doesnt end till sept i wasnt sure if i could cancel it, if not i was thinking of hiring a garage off the council and keep it in their till sept, but i think that would kill me! as i only drive a mk5 escort 1.4chv at the mo!
thanks in advance ;D

You can normally cancel an insurance policy no probs, but you wont get back the full value of the time remaining on your policy. If the quote from your current lot is ridiculous then it might be worth cancelling and going somewhere else.
If you're not going to mod your new car, try Admiral or Elephant. If you plan to do mods, Adrian Flux is pretty good. Dunno their numbers... have a look on t'internet. 8)
Hope this helps,
Rich.

for unmodded tescos also comes out well, so does privilege.
(^^ those two and directline all have the same underwriters..)
i'm with privilege coz it was cheapest for my old car.. i upgraded my policy when i got the valver (1 month in argg) coz it wasn't that far off others, but when it comes up in sept i'm going to shop around a lot.

I used to be with CIS and I cancelled my policy and got a refund for the remaining months, went with Elephant as CIS quoted me ?3,000 tpft or somethin stupid for a gti.
-
but i may the insurance monthly does that affect anything? would i have 2 pay the remains of the policy till sept??
-
not bad!! got a quote 4 ?940 tpft 4 a mk2 gti 8v, thats well good 4 me ;D, but got 2 hav an approved alarm put in, the quote was wiv tesco's i cant beleive it as im paying ?1,320 pa tpft 4 my 1.4chv mk5 escort :o C.I.S sucks big time c**ts

You can cancel now and you won't have to pay up to September, you should get a small rebate if it's half way through a month too!
Then you can take out a policy with an insurance company that doesn't take the pi$$! My first car was a Fiat Uno worth abt ?100 that didn't work properly and was paying ?800.00 tpft, never again!
-
why dont you see if you can get a quote to upgrade your existing policy to the gti?? then all you have to do is pay the difference between cars.

Admiral really are ace!!!!! ;D ....just got a quote for ?490 (10month policy) or ?510 (12month policy) fully comp for my renewal premium (with 3 yrs no-claims). I phoned em up and asked em about mods. Need to pay about 35-50 quid extra per non-engine mod (for admin costs, and slight premium rise).
Adrian flux quoted about ?530 basic, with 25 quid extra per non-engine mod (admin only).
Not bad eh! 8)

Try asda i heard they are quite good,(unmodded)
-
admirals online thingy quoted me.. (for 12 months fully comp..)
?598.50 with 250 excess
?618.45 with 150 excess
?705.60 wtih no excess

If you don't "perform any modifications to increase top speed or acceleration" try More Than, I just got ?360 quote for my non-gti fully comp (I'm just 21..). Anything cosmetic and you don't even have to tell them.
Failing that, H.I.C. were pretty good actually..

;D Elephant are really really good but the only down fall if you have to pay it all in one go. Ive shopped about a bit fro my motors and elephant have never been beaten not even by a few companys I rang becasue they said they do cheaper policy's for VW owners... they ended ups been either twice as much and one even ended up being 3 times as much.
I cant understand why different companies can charge different amounts that are so different at the end of the day they are all owned by the same companies as theres only about 5 kicking about.
