Title: MK.2 power steering music.
Post by: Eddie on 01 February 2008, 23:15
My power steering squeals like a pig. even on corners at speed.
I've changed the belt and tensioned correctly. Fluid level correct. Still squeals.

Has anyone got any advice before i invest in a new pump?  Any clues?
It's a 1990 16v with about 170k on the clock.
Cheers!

have you removed the power steering belt and ran it to see if noise goes??  I only say this because i had a 16v and my alternator bearings where squealing!! more under load?? just a thought

Had this for months and tried everything like you, i just changed the pulley today and it worked a treat. The old one had worn down so much that the belt wouldnt sit inside correctly.

Mine is the same on my 1990 8v - did you get the pulley from a dealer? If so, are they expensive? Also how difficult is it to change the pulley?
