I left work tonight and fuel guage was on the red so thought i'd take it steady for once, didn't fancy running out. While i was driving i was flicking thru the trip computer and it was reading 39.8 MPG whilst cruising at 60 MPH at 3700RPM.....Does this sound right for a 16V....???????.
-
Ummmm No!
But lucky you!
-
so what the feck is giving me these readings...?.
-
I recon thats totally possible..driving steady without nailing it.
my 8v has done/shown 43mpg averaging 70!! and the 16v isnt that much more thirsty unless you drive really hard
-
That sounds normal-ish. Under 4000 at a steady speeed? I'd think 40mpg would be possible?!
My best was 44.8mpg doing 40-50mph & not going over 2500 revs!! :smug:
-
and just remember lens car has a disadvantage weight wise.... :smug:
-
I got 29MPG once
-
Think the highest in mine is 21mpg..........thats me then BRASSIC.
-
at just over 2400rpm doin a stready 60mph in the VR I can get it up to 38mpg.. Until you drop it down and put your foot down that is
-
MPG figure seems about right to me. I average 30 mpg in my 16v. Thats a good split between town/rural driving. I don't gun it at all.
Motorway driving should push the figure up a bit.
-
I get a reading of 41mpg doing about 70ish on a motorway, but sometimes goes right down to like 20mpg when driving back and to to work in the week round town.
-
i got 32mpg at 70 the other day...... Then a beamer cut me up. Soon lost 32 as we had races of the line and round roundabouts for about 20miles!!! LOOOL
-
I collected my mk3 gti 8v from Fleetwood today and drove down to the black country which is about 120 miles i did a stedy 70mph at 3000 revs and got a 38.4 reading on the trip comp. don't know how good the trip comps are but that was the reading. the tank was empty when i picked it up (reading the bottom of the red) i put £25 in the tank which then said 1/2 a tank.. when i got back it was smack on 1/4 tank..  very happy with that.
-
i think the average mpg on here will be around 20!! no body drives steady...or they shouldn't on their private roads
-
Exactly, if the engine is warm, and someone on the PRIVATE ROADS wants to act the big, i gun it!!
-
My 8v mk3 is only doing 36 which is a mix of A roads and a small bit of urban. I was expecting low 40's

Ive never seen 36, i can get 31 at a push, on a steady dual carriage way after a long while.
LOW 40's!!! My car must be broken!
-
My Mk3 8v is getting about 29mpg in town and 35-37 on dual carriage ways etc. Im quite pleased seems fairly good on the juice. Ive just filled it right up and im seeing what the Mpg will be at the end of the tank. Im going birmingham to london on thursday and will involve some fannying about in london so a mix of motorways and ultra urban driving.

Thanks 88, finaly someone that has sense not to believe!
-
I'm not that fussed as the difference between my current average of 36 and my previous statement of "Expecting low 40's! is what 5-6mpg; dependent upon your take on what low 40's means
How is it then fonts of all knowlege out there, that the 8v Golf GTI only puts out 115bhp and 127lbs /ft;
Fuel Consumption (Urban) 25 mpg
Fuel Consumption (ExtraUrban) 45.6 mpg
Fuel Consumption (Combined) 34.9 mpg
Whereas a Golf GTI Mk4 Anniversary has 180bhp and 173lbs/ft with:
Fuel Consumption (Urban) 23.9 mpg
Fuel Consumption (ExtraUrban) 42.8 mpg
Fuel Consumption (Combined) 33.2 mpg
All figures lifted from Auto Trader and my search for a replacement to the trusty Scirocco Scala which was a 1.8 carb, approx 90bhp when built, averaged 42mpg on the same journeys????
-

Fuel Consumption (Combined) 34.9 mpg
I have never seen more than 31, and that was on a motorway doing 70, and it creeped up to 31 after like a good while!
45.6!! You can eat my hat mate.
-
I get about 35mpg out of my 8v GTI

Again, someone that tells the truth. Its a 93 model of a GTI and people are quoting modern day diesel figures!
-
i just worked out i'm only getting 23-24 mpg which is pants
-
i have a 16v and its has returned me over 40mpg on a regular basis. so i think there is nothing wrong with it mate.
