Title: Running in? (ed30)
Post by: mr magoo on 01 February 2008, 12:55
Hi

I'm waiting with some anticipation - ordered at the end of November - for my brand new Edition 30, which should be on my driveway on 1 March (how pretentious is that!)

Unfortunately I'll be doing a fair bit of motorway driving for the first few months - as this will be my first brand new car I need to know whether it requires any 'running in' - eg don't exceed 3000 rpm or 50 mph for the first 1500 miles etc - I'm planning to keep the car for 5 years so want to look after it properly from the outset!

I would like to know now so I can plan my journeys now - and get used to sitting in lane 1 with the hgv's!

My current car - 14 year old Laguna automatic - has packed in - so you can imagine that 'anticipation' is an understatement!

Many thanks!

Congrats on the new motor....bet you cant wait!

I would say keep revs as low as possible, speed in itself is not such a problem, but would take it easy on acceleration, and braking etc - keep things gentle for first few thousand miles.

What ever you do decide to do, dont drive it like you stole it!

PS: Welcome to the forum, and the darkdubside!!!

Hi & welcome

An Ed30 will prob do 70-80mph in 6th on low revs so criusing on m/way should be ok in terms of running in & speed.

Hi Mr Magoo and welcome to the forum

I kept to the running in regime as much as possible. I believe personally that as long as you don't let the engine labour by being in too high a gear for the speed you are doing, by revving it too much - especially when the engine is cold or by sticking to one set of revs on a motorway all the time you should be okay.
