Title: Fitting FMIC's
Post by: Ashmond on 31 January 2008, 12:06
How difficult is this? Anybody done one and got pics? Going to try and do some substancial bits on the mk4 this weekend because if you were was brands last night then you know I still got ALOT to do!

If anybody is from round my way and fancies lending a hand then I would be most grateful!

Ash

I know who you are now but if your not introduced then you dont know!

A FMIC just allows you to run higher boost at a comfortable level, but they say the increases are minimal 5-10 bhp

What sor of FMIC are you fitting because I have thought about this for our tubby. But I can only seem to find quite big IC. Im thinking that the Golf will suffer massive Turbo Lag fitting something quite bigger than standard one...

I just havent seen this mentioned so thought I would bring it up and see if anyone has thought about this.

Just an idea, please let us know your toughts as I said thinking about doing it.

Also you mention turning up the boost, is this possible on standard parts or would this be done via an adjustable actuator...

Cheers
Ben

Firstly, I wouldnt mess about with standard boost, have heard of people doing alot of damage with the manual controllers.

The intercooler I have got is like this one, only a small front, I got the r32 bumper though so it fits in there perfectly!

Thats the size I was thinking about. TBH that would be perect.

Manual boost controlers do get a bad name, but if you have a pretty much standard engine a manual boost controller is good ONLY if you want to increase by 2 or 3 psi. But after that I would go for electronic boost control. You can get them quite cheap.

Manual boost controllers do have a bad name, its always good to play it safe.

Where did you get the IC from??

Ben

To be honest mate, im saving for the jabba sport controller, its £200 supplied and fitted and they set it up to your engine/mods.

Got it off ebay (search golf fmic), that turbo revs once looks like a good kit, mine didnt come with mounting brackets otherwise I would have been up croydon fitting it today
