Hi guys brought a gti mk5 last week, only done 5k miles superb car. but there is one thing bugging me and thats a ticking noise around the engine, it is really hard to pin point the noise. I took it back to the vw dealers last week where they took it into the workshop and informed me this was normal for a gti? what do you guys think?
-
....It's normal. I think it's the injectors.
So many new owners ask this question, including myself over 2 years ago!
-
All gti 2.0 units sound pretty rough.
-
ok cheers guys, thought id better ask before i fell out with the dealer!
-
welcome to the world of "is it a diesel?"
-
....Mine still does it after 44,000 miles
-
Mine just turned 800 today
I read about this characteristic before i got the car and sure enough it sounds a bit clattery when you start it and has a distinct tappety noise at tick over, noticed mine goes away if you raise the idle very slightly.
-
its the fuel rail the noise comes from its down to the hi pressure that goes through it.
-
....It's worth the ticking noise for what the 2.0T FSI engine delivers in return!

I occasionally hear a similar noise with mine... although it sounds more like the V6 gargling battery acid than a tickling sound!!
