Title: Golf v8 Setting MFA Clocks
Post by: Spunky_XR4i_GTi on 30 January 2008, 18:15
Hi just bought myself my first GTI, I don't have a hand book, and don't know how to set the MFA clock to display the time. I jabbed and held in the little pins but nothing happened...do you do it with the ignition on, off etc?

Secondly my rear wiper doesn't work what switch should do it?

Thanks muchly

Spunky

I'm glad someone asked that question about MFA controls ;)

The MFA shows the time when you turn the ignition on. If yours doesn't show anything then check the fuse, if the fuse is fine, check all the fuses since you might be checking the wrong one.....  if all fuses are good then you probably have a broken/faulty MFA. I fixed mine by removing said fuse for a day then put it back in but the only other way I know is to buy second hand unit

With the ignition on use a pin or other small poking devise to advance the time with the two buttons next to the clock.

The rear wiper is controlled on the same stalk as the MFA, it's on the front and slides to the right. If that doesn't work, there should be relays to check, not sure which though.

good luck

What about reseting the MPG, as it seems to just vary....

The pins for my MFA clock don't work anymore either  -  I have to wait until midnight then pull the fuse so that it resets to 00:00

Thanks guys,  hmmm yeah maybe the pins don't work then, there is a display, that seems to work, but i noticed when you slide the switch from 1 to 2 the display changes what does that mean and what are all the displays mean?  :undecided:

Setting 1 on my 8v seems to show info recorded on a trip. It resets after leaving the car parked for an hour or so. Setting 2 shows cumulative info apart from oil temp or outside temp.  You can reset either sets of info by holding the slide switch past either 1 or 2 (depending on what you want reset).

Although I probably look at them every day I can't remember exactly what each one says.   :embarassed:  I think its time, journey time, distance travelled, average speed, mpg, oil temp and outside air temp?

of course it will vary with the differing speeds/revs/type of driving etc

to reset either position push the slider the whole way until it resets.

The rear wiper operates when you push the wiper stalk towards the Dash. Push once briefly the rear wiper starts, push briefly again and it will stop. Push and hold for a few seconds and it'll squirt water on the rear window and wipe.

you can get secret mfa functions too..

To get to alll the funky things, like instant MPG, digital rev counter etc etc....

1. Turn the ignitoin on
2. Hold down the MFA button
3. Switch the ignition OFF then back ON (still holding down the button)
