Title: Another New Ed30 Owner..
Post by: Vtec Abuser on 30 January 2008, 11:49
Now then chaps,
New here in case you hadn't noticed..
Anyway, after messing around with the spec on my car, I have finally got round to ordering it... Whoop whoop! lol
Specs as follows..
Candy White 3dr, DSG, MFSW, BI-Xenons, Sat Nav, Centre armrest with storage box..
Having had a numbers of Hot hatches, including CTR (Hence the user name lol), LCR 225 (current), I am looking forward to getting to know the VW very well.. lol. Especially as she'll be treated to a nice set of black 18" Team Dynamic Pro race 1.2's and a Re-map once it's run in..
So it looks like you may be seeing a little more of me.. ha
If there are any other Candy white ED30 owners, that feel like sharing there pics, I certainly won't object...
One quick question though chaps.. Does the DSG box cope ok with Re-maps? As I know there was a concern at first..
Cheers, Ben

Ha ha.. You guessed it.. Well thought I may as well be a member of the the main Golf Forums...
should be mid to end of April from what i've been told.. So bit of a wait.. , but it'll be worth it no doubt..
What spec you gone for mate?

5dr, Manual, Silver with the Funky DVD/30gb SatNav/Armrest and the "smoking pack" (I think is just an ashtray with lid and cigarette lighter lol)
Gonna add the Cruise Control later as well, that seems to be a retro fit suitable item.

I wanted a normal GTI originally, but the wait was quite long (end april) so I was offered a cancelled Ed30 order which I went for :)

Don't blame ya to be honest mate..
On the cruise control thing. I never ordered it and wish I had now. But is it cheap and easy enough to fit after?

Yeah, apparently it's a simple indicator stalk replacement and a reprogram of the ecu system.
£150 at a dealer according to the price list.

Places like AwesomeGTI also supply and fit.

I believe it can even be done for the price of parts at home if you have access to a VAGCOM unit to reprogram etc.
For the sake of £150, I think I'll just get the dealer to do it.

Yes about 150qud fitted using gen parts

Sounds like just the trick then..
One question though. Sounds stupid, but with them accessing the ECU, would it have any affect if the ECU was Re-mapped? Cause any problems etc...

I had both done at the same time, can now switch the map on and off using the cruise control stalk

Yeah the best thing to do is have it all done in one go like Gaz so when you pick the car up not only have you got 300 bhp to play with but cruise control to keep your speed down on the motorways, not that you will straight after a remap

Welcome, Ben,

This site helped pass the time before delivery - we've had ours just a couple of weeks - no shiny pics yet, but here's a couple to be getting on with (white glows in the dark)

Cheers for the welcome chaps.. There's some great pics there, only prob now is I want it now.. Ha!
One other question (I will do a search too), I will obviously be having it mapped almost straight away-ish. Basically want a reliable map, that can be turned on and off. Had Revo on my LCR for over 70,000 miles and not had one hicup, so may use them again. But on the LCR the Revo is quite an aggresive map that tails off at higher revs and I quite fancy a more revvy power delivery this time. I did hear that the new 2.0 TFSI map from Revo is spot on and isn't as aggressive as the old one, but more linear. Also I quite fancy a RR of before and after this time..
Now I know a lot of you chaps have had they're GTI's mapped, so without starting a tuner war off here, what's my best option? Revo, Bluefin etc etc..

Also, has any of you chaps taken your Ed30's to the Pod for a 1/4 mile run? I would be interested in seeing what a mapped one is capable of? Best I managed in my LCR with Revo Stage 1 is 14.0 @ 99mph (about 8 bloody times). So would think (going on power/weight) a properly driven Ed30 should be capable of mid 13's @ well over a ton.. Just wondered whether anyone has found out yet?
Cheers, Ben.

As far as I know its only APR that have sussed the map switching with the cruise, the others use a hand held switching device you plug into the diagnostic port

I'm not to fussed whether it's a handheld device or done on the Cruise control.. How much was your map mate? Did it go on the rollers too I take it?

Yeah the Bluefin is a handheld that you plug in, takes twenty minutes to switch though, switching with cruise sounds much better but not sure why you would want to, I've only done it once when I first got it, just to compare the difference etc. but never even considered it since. Will remove for first service in case they do any ECU updates or whatever.

That's the main reason mate.. When it goes in to dealer.. Don't want to take it to a arsey dealer who discovers it's chipped and invalidate my warranty..

I'd go for Oettinger. They have 330/435 remap and it is switchable thru cruise control.

When the misses drives it in the rain,

Yes the car went on the rollers after the map, think it did 248bhp standard,  294bhp mapped with 1500miles on it, then 298bhp a few weeks later with a few more miles on it. The map is 499quid, 150 for cruise all plus the dreaded of course.
Oettinger and APR are 1 and the same, also there aren't many if any Oettinger agents in the UK.
