So here's the thing, trip from Bournemouth to Ash, Sevenoaks, 260 miles
Decided for a change to see what the car could do economy wise rather than raceboy wise and managed 38mpg with a mix of town, A, B and motorway!!! Sticking to sensible driving speeds rather than race track style speeds
Is that  or what??????
Is there any better mpg out there from an ED30 I wonder????
-
I've seen very similar average figures at a steady 70mph on the motorway over a distance of about 40 miles using the cruise to keep me sensible

fackin ell.......................i wish..........
-
bet u wouldn't mind the 298bhp to

Basingstoke to Bournemouth and back today. Booted it on the M3 and M27 and had fun through the new forest. 41mpg :-)
MKII 8v, you buys may have all the fancy toys but it hurts your wallet long after you've paid for the car.

34 + if you reset and be patient but sadly the inevitable always happens ans the ed30 torque curve sucks you in and
whoooooooooooooooosh
sub 30 MPG before you know it lol
I seem to average 27 MPG mixed commuting , although it def gets better the more miles you have under the belt.
-
If i could get that kind of mpg i would get 2 R32's!!
-
I average about the same 27-28mpg overall and I'm realy not very nice to it sometimes

I see what you mean Nick, really boring having all the creature comforts, dual zone climate, 0-60 in under 6 secs (stock), top speed of 155, handling to die for and looks that are simply  I'll take my 38mpg thanks
-
If i drive as slowly as i could possibly handle ... im lucky to get 23! 25 if its down hill!!
-
And you can't blame the 4wd as they run in 2wd most of the time until 4wd is needed, just that greedy v6

Its tru! I opened both front windows yesterday and I swear I could smell petrol.. the greedy cow is dribblin the stuff down her chin!
-
Anyone getting over 25mpg just isn't using the car and should be given a 1ltr Nissan Micra as punishment
-
50 mpg from my 170!!, the joy of having a diesel, but the only joy in comparing my previous set of wheels
-
On our new ED30 with just 300 miles on the clock, we're getting about 34mpg, 'sensible' speeds, 80% motorway...
I'd sort of expected it to be a few mpg higher to be honest - maybe it will be once the car's done 10K.
One thing I've noticed is that unlike the old car, the mpg creeps up when going through reasonably free flowing urban roads (30/40mph) - I always thought that cars weren't that efficient in fuel when on such roads, but it's the first time I've been able to monitor it. (Obviously if you're stop starting all the time then it'll take a hit).
TIP:
If you want to get your fuel efficiency up, then an alternative to driving incredibly carefully and slowly is to leave the car at home on some short trips and cycle or walk instead. Then use the fuel you saved to cane it along the b-roads!
-
25-30 mpg in town depending on driving style from my R32 so far but only had it 4 days.
On the motorway it was consistently above 30.
Hmm...I need to drive it harder :embarassed:
-
My average since a got the car and done 6000 miles is 31.6mpg. Mixture of all types of roads. Not thrashing it but then again not grannying it.
Better than the S3 was so I am
-
22mpg  very very rarley get it over 26mpg
-
My daily commute is 46 miles (Single track country lanes, b-roads, the A1, the M25, the M11 then down to Canary Wharf).
Driving like my nan, when not in a rush on the way home one night and sticking to all speed limits, I achieved an average of 40.2 mpg!! :nerd:
However, if im late, or I 'detour' for a blast through Epping Forest, its more like 26 - 27 mpg...and much more fun!!
-
It does seem quite rare for anyone to achieve VWs published figures then?

The Rs mpg is bad like lol over a run like its ok - i have seen 30mpg cruise control at about 75pmh for 30mins but i do too much down driving and get 15 to 17  I was thinking of changing to an ED30 but would I really save that much money on fuel. Maybe 20 quid a month? Hardly worth it to be honest. Rather keep my Deep Blue baby and my V6 roar. How was it Clarkson put it 'meeeaaatttyy!!!!'

Impossible. Dunno how they come up with those.

30, 38, 27mpg. What are you people doing. Mine has been above 20mpg since I've had it
