Title: should i be worried i've just bought a mk4 tdi
Post by: Scooby__Doo on 29 January 2008, 19:23
hi

I've recently bought 98 's' reg mk4 tdi 110 and the abs sensor light has just started to come on permanently, the car also has a very slight pull to the left are these likely to be related?

Also is it normal for the arm rest on the drivers door to look like its been scratched to high heaven? And the boot handle seems a bit pock marked and quite bubbly?

I've hpi checked the car before hand myself for £4 online and all the data matches up.

It seems like a very nice example with low 80k's for mileage but should I be worried ?

Thanks

The bubbled boot handle is unfortunately pretty common and nothing to get too worried about.  The drivers door arm rest is very susceptable to scratches (I take it you're talking about the bit with the window controls?) so again maybe the previous owner wasn't the most carefull but it wouldn't take much to scratch it.

As for the brakes yeah its quite possible the two are related, binding brakes / seized caliper which is confusing the ABS system.  Best to get that seen to pronto....

not sure about the abs sensor, i'd get that checked out could be a dodgy sensor new sensor will cost you about £30

the pulling could be down to the bushes or it could be related to the brakes.

the handle can be changed for about £10

IIRC someone else's was pulling to the left and thay had the alignment camber done which sorted it.

Ok thanks.

Not too worried about the boot handle to be honest.  I understand that the car is coming up 10 years old.

With the abs sensor light.  If that has come on for a genuine abs fault what would be the likely problem and what would the symptons be when I was driving the car.

Hopefully its nothing and I'll have the tracking done and it'll all be fine.
