Title: ECON button on - engine cuts out if heater blowers are switched on
Post by: Mr Blue on 29 January 2008, 17:18
The car is a mk4 1.8T with climate control.

If the heater blower is switched on (climate control) the engine cuts off!

Cant see anything missing in the engine bay.

Has anyone had this problem and how was it sorted?

Chances are if the ac compressor or related parts are seized as stated before the ECU will detect this and cut the engine before you have pieces of it flying around your engine bay as it destroys itsself.
All of the above is just a wild guess as i have no idea about ac systems.
take it to an ac specialist and see what they say.

To be clear on this does it cut out as soon as you switch the blower on - even in econ mode?  If its in econ mode the a/c compresser isn't energised so shouldn't be causing a problem.  If it stalls as soon as you take econ mode off then yeah I would blame the compressor too.
