Tell you what, you send me £30 and i'll send you a piece of paper that says your car now has 6hp more, how's that?

lmao, that kind of sums it up!...waste of money matey

Not saying that it added 6bhp, but i had one of these things a while back (nearly 2 years) and it did certainly make a difference. The car pulled a lot harder to the redline and it was quite easy to hit the limiter as it still felt like it was pulling. I would say that over roughly 4k is where it made the difference.
Just out of interest, for the people that always slag these things off, how many of you have tried them? That isn't a sarcastic/arsey comment, it is a genuine question
-
Must admit, I'm very tempted to give one of these ago.
I have heard quite a few good things about them, even if they don't add the HP.
Bit nervous about taking my ecu apart though :undecided:
-
Just get a boost valve to give the fuel more of a spray than a blast. :)

Search for a post by bluefox, in the tdi section. I helped him test it. Say's it all really.

I have 1 of the Powerchips "chips" in my Jetta, havent had it on the rollers, but it has greater pulling power, and loads of mid range torque, would recommend 1 to anyone on here, would have better advantages on other cars ie, Golf, due to my car being heavier, and my car also has a cat converter on it.

That's fair enough, can't really argue with that.
However, as has been said on these chips before, what is there to say that they are not just a copy of the Superchip map or any other make? For the year that i ran mine for i didn't have any problems with it, although it wasn't the exact one from this seller.

Call it the marmite mentality.
either love them or hate them.
I don't justify the money personally.
-
That is very true, i just had a spare 20 quid at the time so took a punt. Maybe even call it young and naive! I guess i got lucky with mine, it felt nicer to drive and didn't do any damage. That said, it is safe to say for every good experience you will be able to find at least 1 person that has had a bad experience with cheap chips!
-
Just looking at my ebay feedback, i bought mine from that guy you have linked to Dubsport. Mine was only £20 back in June 06 though!
-
I had one from "HigherPeaks", fitted for around 12 months. Definitely pulled a bit stronger through the revs, however it caused endless trouble with pinking. The engine was set-up as per the "guide", although it is a very high miler.
Since removing the chip, the pinking has reduced a lot, but still not disappeared (head is coked up)
-
i got one of these for £20, i can now reproduce them at my work so if any one wants one for a £10 gimme a pm! basically its an e-prom which just changes the values that the ecu looks for..say goodbye to economy but it will increase torque and high end revs

no point for 6bhp....cheaper way to make ur car go quicker...make it lighter....bin back seats and passanger if u like...carpets out..underlay out...spare wheel out parcel shelf etc....its free to do this and will make ur mk2 go quicker than a chip that claims 6bhp.....and easy to re-install  ......
or use my method...its called big f**k off heavy right lead weight foot

I don't know about Dubsport, but practicality issues mean there would be no way i could do that, whereas the chip did improve the way the car drove and it still remains practical.
-
each to their own init! i've stripped mine, got a chip, got a cam, pulley, 4brancher, pipercross filter...everythin i can afford for more power... gettin bored now...might slap in a mk3 2ltr 16v :)

before you buy double check with the seller that the chip(s) will work with your ECU. There are loads of different ECUs! After research I found out that any most if not all ECUs with a single letter code at the end of the part number need 2 chips to run properly, the double letter ECUs just need 1.

does that statement relate to bosch, tan, or seimens ECU's?

all ecus as far as im aware, each manif ecu comes in single & dual letter codes from what I've been able to determin.
basicallyt the issue is on the earlier ones the map is stored on both chips or something, later models have it all on the 1 chip. Symptoms are less fuel and a LOSS in power over the std ecu!
