Didnt know there was a 2.0GTi with a red i. I thought it was only some of the turbo and derv models which had the red i. Has the previous owner put a different badge on?
welcome by the way.

Very possible yes. I was looking through google and couldnt find anything so that is why i was wondering! I believe it is just a 2.0 litre engine then, i have read alot of review slagging it off, is it a terrible engine?
-
I have the same.
Its 115bhp 2.0 8v. Its always the tubby owners that slag it off. Its not a bad engine really just not very quick. Check your oil regularly as it likes to drink it.

lol, im quite skinny so i should be ok, took it for a test drive and really enjoyed it to be honest, got really nice interior withlots of extras too! what sort of mpg does it do? and are there any other things i should check?
-
i get anywhere between 31 and 35. not had it on a really long run yet. If you like it and arent bothered too much about going quickly then go for it. At least then youve got a dub that you want. theres a lot of stuff on here about what to watch out for. use the search button. Make sure you get a start from cold as im having cold start issues with mine. check windows as sometime the clips break and the windows fall out. other than that just check the things you would normally when buying a car.

Tubby owners - turbo owners!

and the derv owners
pretty sure that the cab only came in a 2.0 8v form too.
its only got a bad rep becuase its not "fast" enough to be classed as a GTI and pretty much all the other MK's GTI's will ot perform the 2.0, as an engine its sound and any MK4 is going to be a solid car.
convertible gti (with redi!)
there are untold threads on here and the web discussing what the i's being red means, and so far general consensus is that it means nothing.
welcome to the forum, now all you need its to get some pics up

thanks for all ya replys, im happy to hear that the only real issue is that its just not fast enough to be classed with the gtis! i was getting worried! im now getting it delivered thursday so ill have to get some pics up!

cool!!!
If you're lucky that strange yellow ball in the sky might stay around long enough, for you to actually get the top off.

Nice one dude!
What colour is it by the way?
-
 tell me about it! otherwise im off to hotter climates i want to have the top down 24/7, by the sounds of it im going to be doing around 70 max with my engine if im lucky!!
-
its jazz blue outside with blue and blak leathers! looks sweet!
-
Dont see many MK4 cabbys, get some pics up asap when you get it :D
-
ther is a few around where im from, and there all 2.0's in silver or limeish green . but do get some pic's up mate
-
Yeah, just to contradict the red "I" info, I'm pretty sure the the cabbys where ALL badged up as 2.0. Sounds like the previous owner took the 2.0 off and bought a "GTI" badge on-line, makes sense as all the on-line badges come with red "I"s.

sounds right to me.
vagparts.co.uk sell an all silver GTI badge and a "Cabrio" badge in the same font as Golf
if you fancy changing the badge
