Title: Gearbox advice needed

I have a Golf Mk 2 petrol with a gearbox that sounds like a bag of nails!! :cry:

Even I know thats not good!!

I also have a Mk2 GTD gear box or a Mk3 TD gear box.


Would I be able to put either of these in my petrol Mk 2??? As I'm having trouble tracking down a suitable Mk2 petrol gear box.

they will both fit but the ratios would be very bad for a std petrol engine!  It would work for the short term though if you need a new box urgent like :)

edit: what are the gearbox codes?  Check out http://www.brokevw.com for info on how/where to check the gearbox code :)
