Title: mk2 16v problems
Post by: golfmk1 on 28 January 2008, 13:30: i have just bought a mk2 golf gti 16v 1.8 kr 1989
it has no bottom end power atall unless i boot it it wont go anywhere! it is using alot of fuel!
i was wondering if anyone could help me? i have been told it might be due to lack of air getting to the engine in which case i have 2.0l induction parts!

Post by: Conker on 28 January 2008, 15:13: I'd try a full service first to see if that helps: Oil/filter/plugs/rotor arm/fuel filter/air filter, plus new spark plug leads if they look knackered.

Then you could look at engine timing.

If it still feels pants you could have it rolling roaded for around Ã‚£30 to proove its power, or for about Ã‚£80 you can have a rolling road tune-up.

Post by: golfmk1 on 29 January 2008, 09:09: think im going to put my 9a 2.0l in it its pouring cream into the airbox from the block breather! but no oil in water and no water in oil :angry: i have checked timing, oil is new and filter leads look mint as does the rotor arm etc, :angry:

Do you mean the crankcase breather? If so, that pipe can get full of mayo, but its quite normal, especially if its not been on many long runs. I guess moisture can get down the pipe from the airbox and react with the oil traces in the pipe.

Post by: Conker on 30 January 2008, 16:15: The screw on the throttle body is the idle screw. The CO2 screw is on the metering head. If your idle screw was falling out, surely you would have had huge idle problems (hunting, or a 2000rpm idle speed)??
