Title: Temp prob
Post by: richw911 on 27 January 2008, 16:32
The temp needle has been dropping from the 90 last few weeks so i did a DTC scan and it came back with:

16500 Engine coolant Temperature Circuit-Range/Performance Problem

So I thought it would be the temp sender and brought a new one. However after fitting it it is still droping and the same code comes up

Anyone got any thoughts? Maybe the sensor in the tank or thermostat   :undecided:

1.8T BTW

another possibilty could be the sensor in the expansion tank but change the thermostat first

about £30 or so i think mate  :undecided: not sure if the sensor is in the cap or the tank itself.  Mate of mine had a problem on a 150 TDI Bora and VW replaced the whole tank.  fairly certain the sensor for the 1.8T is in the cap though

Magic thanks for that rhys. I think i will replace the thermostat first, As you say then do the tank next because if i do both i will never know which one it was

This is my first engine problem since i got her 55000 miles ago so ive been quite lucky

Hi,
The sensor in the expansion tank is just for the level, and is not linked to the temp gauge.
Some 1.8t's had another sensor in the bottom hose, near the radiator, it could be this, but sounds like your thermostat may be at fault.
