wow what a day went to germany today, from the tunnel to frankfurt and back via the ring i managed a legal 153.2mph, an average of 24.3mpg and an average speed of 71 mph total 924 miles, quite impressed with the stats also 3and a half fill ups (germany has 100 ron vpower, why dont we). i was the last car on the ring, managed to do it in just under 12 mins a good time as the sun was very low and parts of the track was damp.
does any one know the relavence of the writing all over the track surface and how they managed to do it.....

That sounds great im planning to go to the ring in summer this year, I've been practicing heavily on the x-box to try and learn the track
-
ive tried it on the xbox nothing like the real thing though. its very difficult to drive super quick as there are no signs telling you were turns are and some are over blind crest also as you are not insured tape up your reg plates as people film on certain parts of the track and ive found comentated crashes on youtube not what you need if you stuff it.come back via luxembourg cheapest place for fuel and ciggies......

I'm told by others with more experience of the 'Ring than myself, that it's best not to try and do a superfast lap if you want to stay out of the Armco and very substantial costs which you will be liable for quite apart from the costs of damage to your car. Just drive it as you would a road you don't know. It takes hundreds of laps to become at all familiar. Push it and it will bite you!!

i was nearly bitten just near the start very low sun ended in a bit of off road grass driving.

Sounds like a great trip! I heard from my friends dad that the writing is where people have died on the track  Not sure how true though?

A friend of mine has just been on a charity raising "gumball rally" style event, where the car must cost no more than £500.
It was over a long weekend. He said it was brilliant experiance. And he did it in a Fiat X19. One set of lads did it in a Lincoln Town Car stertched Limo.
One car got pulled by a marshal (on a motobike) on the Ring. Another rider came around the corner too fast and hit the marshal and car. They then had to close it for a couple of hours.
The X19 made it back the Lincoln Town car didn't.

It's just random. People climb over fences etc. to get in after hours and make their mark on the track.

....So, what did you write on the track, Golfgirl?
-
Well I didn't personally but some of the group I was with wrote 'Ave It one year. Another year they made up a number plate with the clubs name on (which shall remain nameless!) and put it directly under the webcam....it stayed there for quite a while before it was removed!
