Title: GIAC Tuned Edition 30
Post by: hufcforpromotion on 26 January 2008, 13:03
Hi all!
As most of you know I had the superchips Bluefin on my edition 30 for a week before sending it back as I did not like the power delivery! I was looking at APR but after visiting Star Performance this morning and speaking to the Owner Jim Curley I decided to go with the GIAC remap! He offered me the Hand held switch unit with the stock file and performance file for £599 all fitted! First of all he checked the car for error codes before remapping the car. After the car had the remap he showed me how to use the handheld switch unit which is excellent as you can switch between stock and performance in a second either when the car is stood still or during driving. We then went for a test drive and all I can say is what a lovely smooth power delivery! The car is exactly how I want it to be! Very happy indeed! I would highly recommend!!!

305 BHP! There are rumours of a 330 BHP remap coming out also! I meant to mention also that you get 30 days money back guarantee if you are not happy with the remap!

Sounds good, I should imagine the 330bhp map is like a stage2, which needs TBE and intercooler in APR guise, so I would think you would need at least an exhaust

I am getting the Milltek CAT back fitted this week! I was going to get the turbo back but Jim Curley has had lots of problems with the down pipe on MkV Gti's and also His leon Track car so he advised to not bother!

Had TBE Milltek on my last GTi to with no issues what so ever, really improved things making the car rev much easier and pull much stronger along with the stage2 map

Awesome now recommend fitting a dogbone insert, neuspeed or ECS, when fitting uprated exhausts Milltek or otherwise, just to reduce engine movement a little.

There is not good to push the engine to 330hp without new intercooler and full exhaust.Your turbo will burn up,and also your original cat will get to hot with that high boost to get 330hp.Giac have had lot of problem in the US because of to high turbo pressure

....Good advice, wolfbane.

People need to consider the whole package and not just the numbers of an easily added remap.

Tell that to Superchips uk! They have been running this program for the last month or so!

And how good is supechips  Mabe there is possible to use this 330hp remap on a S3 with the larger intercooler, but not on a Ed30 or Cupra, no way

How do you find your Jetex System? Is it the normal GTI system? Did the downpipe fit onto the bigger turbo ok?

....Well if Superchips, or indeed any other tuner, don't take into consideration the status (if modded and how etc) of a customer's car and are happy to sell you their remap regardless, then I would stay well clear of them! No personal service and probably questionable aftersales support by the sounds of things.

Besides which, "a month or so" isn't really long enough, and on how many cars and in how many different climate territories?

Thats one of the reasons I decided to not keep the Superchips BluFin!

Wolfbane, what diameter are those twin pipe outlets?

They look a little bit larger than normal.

Great. That is what I was hoping you'd say. Same as the Milltek then

I wish they were 90mm, so they fill in the cut-out fully (but do not protrude as much as on RedRobin's GTI)

Theres not room for 90mm,trust me it looks big in real, and its hard to wash as it is in 80mm

Oi Wolfbane when did you steal my car?

How does your non-res milltek sound K1? A full Milltek system is my first mod but I dont know whether to get res or non-res. I think the ED30 sounds great standard and would sound even better amplified but I dont want it to sound like a kitted up Nova.

Get the Non-res catback, not loud at all. Gives it a deeper note, no droning whatsoever. Was told not to get resonated cat back as it could be even quieter than stock.
I'm thinking of fitting a downpipe and high flow Cat to it.
Definitely get the Non-res, whilst stock sounds nice outside, i don't think it sounds so good inside.

....Although mine is a GTI rather than an Ed30, I can tell you that the differences between standard, res, and non-res. are very subtle. You only really hear the differences when using the revs. Inside the cabin you can hear the non-res with the windows closed but it's not obtrusive and I personally don't like to drive any vehicle in which I can't hear what the engine is doing. None of the Millteks are at all boy-racer. You can swop the centre section between res and non-res on a ramp or pit.

If you are someone who likes listening to classical music while driving, I'd go for the res version if at all. But your post suggests you like the sound of a sporty exhaust like most enthusiasts! The non-res Milltek certainly makes a 4-pot sound as good as it gets. The stainless steel pipes mature too - 40k miles on mine now.

Thanks RR thats what I wanted to hear, non-res it is

....Be aware that some of us have reported a period in the early stages of slight droning at about 3,200 revs but after a few weeks of this it all coked up nicely and settled.

There'll be subtle sound differences between DSG and Manual cars too. It's all very good!

This is what an Edition 30 would sound like with a full non res Milltek with a 3" downpipe and a Carbonio - No remap.

Thats nice Djhorace. How's the noise on motorways? Any droning climbing hill, cruising at 80mph or so? Did you notice any power gains? Cheers.

Its not bad really. There is a point in the revs somewhere that harmonics are a little intrusive, but it sounds awesome from the outside. I have a clip of a fly by I did, but would prefer to rip the sound from the video if I could. If anyone can suggest a programme to do it, I will post the clip.

As far as I know, the resonated system is probably not much louder than the stock exhaust. I am glad I got non-resonated.

....Exactly what I found. I drove a res and a non-res Mk5 GTI back to back.

One thing I have also noticed is that the stock MK5 GTi/Ed30 sounds a fair bit meatier than the 2.0T FR/Cupra despite SEAT supposedly tuning the exhaust to give a sportier noise.
