Title: Rear Brake Calipers!
Post by: 16vmk3ash on 27 March 2004, 20:16
Hi, i have replaced my front discs, but when i tried to replace my rears i couldent remove the caliper mounting bracket bolts.

Is there a special tool to remove the bracket retaing bolts?

Which bolts do you mean? the allen key bolts for the carrier or the actual caliper bolts.
the allen key bolts are a pain, if they round off use a spline in it, or do what i did, clamp a small nut splitter on it and use a hammer.
the calipers bolts will come off easier, use a 13mm socket on the end bolt, and hold the slider still with a 15mm spanner.

Always renew the bolts, if you need to break the old ones off, then you will have replacements ready.

The allen key bolts - i wasent sure they were allen key bolts.

It started raining heavy when i got to this point and it dident look like it was gona stop, so i put every thing back together.

So is it just a regular allen key or a special allen key from a garage?

Use a hexagon(allen key type) socket, as the bolt is tight.
Always tap the socket in with a hammer.
