Title: Help with Bora TDI purchase
Post by: Horney on 23 January 2008, 18:13
Hi Folks,

Don't venture in here too often but I'm after some MKIV advice. My Dad has been offered a TDI Bora by a co-worker and as he needs car pronto (Lost hi sold job abd the company car with it!) he needs info asap.

It's 2002 02 plate TDI SE (140bhp?) 6spd in Black with 110,000 miles and fsh (Not sure if all VW). What sort of ball park price will the guy be looking for and is there anything my old man should look out for/into when viewing driving? I'll probably go with him if I can.

My Dad's had one before (a y reg TDI) and he loved it so I'm going to have to make sure he doesn't snap it up without thinking it through.

Nick

The resident TDi guys are Rhyso and Ridge. If no one gets back to you here try giving them a PM.

you're going to have to check the sticker really, i think the SE is going to be either 110, 115 or 130 depending on the year.

being a 6 speeds means its either the 115 or 130 PD engine

110K is nothing really for a TDI lump as long as its been services when it should with the right oil (important for the PD's) then it should be fine.

one thing to consider is that on the fixed interval the 120K is a major service and its going to include a cam belt and air filter.

Rhyso should be able to give you a rough idea of price

in terms of things to check just the usual things which can be found here,

Better late than never; just got back from Lapland!!

Bora's tend to be cheaper than Golfs as they are not as popular.

Ball park figure...... somewhere around the 4.5K for a 115 and a little bit more for the 130.

Things to look out for are the usual MKIV faults but also check that the correct oil has been used as the wrong oil will cause cam wear problems
