Post by: SuperSaiyan4 on 23 January 2008, 16:27

Mk3 I think are 17cm, but having never owned one, I'm not 100% sure - I expect somebody will clear that up for you.

You can probably get a lot better for your money than the xplop range.

theyr 16.5cm/17cm speakers for the front door matey.
As for having Xplod speakers...theres nothing wrong in having sony speakers..they give a lot of clarity..but perhaps not a lotv bass...but its realy your own preference. dont know how much u'v spent or are willing to spend on em to tell wot else you can get for the same amount but i gues try em out..only one way to find out...u can pop down to your local audio store n chek em out there if they have a demonstration board for speakers. I know we do at halfords so even if going to your local halfords store n chek out the sony range that are in the board n perhaps compare to the likes of pioneer and kenwood. even Fli speakers arent half bad...and theyr quite cost effective too.

goodluck with that

Well I am buying from MotorWorld near where I live, the Xplod speakers are £30 for a set of 2 and are 3way.

I like bass but dont want to get a bass box, willing to pay £60 max for 4 set of speakers to be honest so whats better than them?

I have these

They sound very well and quite bassy too.

Whats the RMS figures for the xplop and are you planning on amping them?

I would find out about RMS figures before buying as i dont think they are very high.

You sould always build your ICE with room for expension. In this case amping the comps. as you WILL want to as some point.

all head units have amps. that one is only 4x26watts RMS.

you will get much better performance out of any speaker if its on a seperate amp.

Its up to you though. thats just what i would do.

26 watts!!!??? Thats puny!

need a decent H/U mate! At least 50 watts, though 60 watts is better.

That's 26w rms Len, and I think even that is being optimistic.  If you look at all of the headunits out there claiming 4x50 or even 4x60w, it's always meaningless peak power.  More like 15 - 18w rms per channel in reality.

The sony xplod range tend to have a reputation of putting style over content.  If you link to the speakers you're thinking of, maybe somebody could recommend alternatives in the same price bracket.

Some of the older sony stuff (particularly headunits) are legendary, but I've not heard any of the current stuff get good press at all.

As for amping speakers - yes, components will sound much better running from an amp.  Not just volume, but also sound quality.

Well I'm sure mine is rated at 52 watts rms but I will go check!

Nowt wrong with Sony Xplod btw. And ya dont have to take my word for it! Others on here have heard mine and whilst its not fantastic its darn good for the money I spent!

That will be 52watts peak i would have thought. It should tell you in the amplifier section of your user manual.

Well it dont say peak or quote an rms figure!

All it says is 52 watts x 4 maximum power!

So yea Chrisn Jen it aint an rms wattage!
