Title: Rev counter on a 1.3
Post by: bigman_10 on 23 January 2008, 14:55
hey guys i checked the search and people have done this the 1.6 drivers. what do i need to do it to a 1.3? its a 1990 with the hazard swith on the steering colum so from what i've gathered in the other tabs i'll need a single plug rev counter. will i need to do any wiring e.g. taking wires off the ignition coil like when using self diagnostic tacho? also will i have to change the whole console or can i just change the dial section? or is it a 'stop dreaming' approach lol.

cheers

chris

nice work mate, you've painted the airbox and rocker covers a few times:grin: and what a shame about those bumper and wing problems!

Anyway i'm a bit unsure what connections need to be made between the rev counter and the car what did it wire into? did you have to make new connections to anything i.e. the coil? i take it you just took the electrical side of the dash (the digital clock and coolant warning lights etc) and then connected it into some sort of harness already in place?

i've not taken the dash apart yet to have a look how i'd go about it so sorry i'f i'm askin a dumb question!

cheers

chris

Hehe no worries amte not a dumb question - i ahd the same initial thought.. it was plug and play, if you follow my guide to swap it all, once youve got a cluster with the rev counter in, just plug it back in.. refitting is a reversal of removal so to speak, my kick back for the revs was there anyway so should yours be

ok cool i checked yours out in a bit more detail and i think you used the single plug if so would this be alright i'd change the speedo over anyway so i can retain the milage.

its bit pricey though for my liking i think i'm going to go to the scrappy and have a look, see if i can barter.

cheers mate

Those wont work, you need the single plug type clocks. They are quite a good price though...

You need to get the single plug clocks, take your existing clocks out and lay the two together. Take apart yours and get the speedo out, take apart the others and get the speedo out, and then put your speedo in. Put them back together, and fit them in the car, plug in, put the dasj back together and your finished. You'll be left with a clock, and the new speedo...  It really is that easy, unless your going to do the MFA as well..

aahh bum i thought it was a single plug but yh you can see that white pllug in the bottom left! doh scrappy then me thinks. cheers though it seems like a simple swap, i thought i'd have to be wiring the rev counter to something rather than just plug in and vrooom!

Big respect to the boys! i just put one in today with my mate (who kept loosing screws  ) the bloke at the scrappy said he didn't have any 8v clocks on 16v but when he showed it me the speedo only went to 120mph so thts some slow valver! but yeah i swapped the speedos over anyway to save milage and kept with the digital clock as i wasn't to sure about the mfa stuff. so thanks for the advice guys especially beavis your dub project helped me out!
