Title: Mk4 1.6 16V
Post by: transitman on 22 January 2008, 12:50
Ok Hope you guys can help, my friend has a Mk4 1.6 16V on a 51plate!

It has the engine management light on and upon scaning it have this fault code come up:

16804 - Catalyst System: Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
        P0420 - 35-00 - -

Now is this Catalytic converter related? The car has only done 63000miles

I have monitored the signal on VAGCOM and tried clearing the fault but it comes back after about 100miles

The signal I moinitored was in Block 1 which seemed fine, alot of fluctuation when revving the engine and driving which Im guessing is the probe in the manifold as it looks brand new.

The other signal I monitored was in block 6 i think of VagCom, this value only fluctuated from -2.0% - -3.0%

So from that I would say that there was something wrong there?? I need to find out if its the Cat or the Sensor....
What do I do next??

Thanks chaps.

weather its the cat or the sensor u gotta replace them both idealy as the problem will reoccur again and then it just gets pricey, good luck tho

Cheers Guys,

Will play with the sensor later today...

How do I perform the aging check on a 1.6 16V? Obviously I have VAGCOM.

Cheers

Carried out post cat ageing test and all was fine, what can I gather from this? Is the cat at fault?
