ive been trying since i sold my previous car to sell my subs they are 2x1200 watts sony xplode's and they are just sat in my room now in the way!
so im just putting it to the vote on this wonderful forum should i put them back in or is that to chavvie?
hit me with your thoughts good or bad i can take it
-
personally I like the sound of bass from subs, so my cars have always had one in. Maybe not 2x1200 watt sony xplodes tho... lol
-
Nothing wrong with subs as long as you have the treble and clarity to back it up, nothing worse then pure bass and nothing else!
-
if you want to have a full range of sound in your car then you need a sub, saying a sub is chav is like saying anyone with a 5.1 cinema setup is a chav
having the sub ramped right up, windows down playing cd's from the front of max power is chav though, whilst in halfords car park is 110% chav though.
Personally i'd say 2 * 8" subs on a stealth shelf is enough to add the missing dimension to the sound, but then it depends on your music taste really.
-
iv always had subs in cars too. Cant do with out them. I find when i didnt have em i didnt miss em but if i get into a car with no bass now it sounds tinny.
You can do lots better than sony imo though. Id like to see 1200 watts trough them - toasty

Sub are not chavy.
-
they look awful and certainly are chav unless they cannot be seen (my opion!)

Clearly, who has a sub on display? Stick it in the boot surley?
-
if like ur music loud and to sound nice then u gota have a sub or 2
but like the ridge says max power cds blairin with the windows down is chavvie in ur chaved up nova lol

Gotta have subs!
-
I have a nice pair of subs for sale if anyone is interested. They are a quality pair of kicker solobaric 8" so not to big and overbearing i have a few threads in the for sale and audio section. If you want pics just let me know, they have never been used and are still in the plastic sealing they were delevered in. Want quick sale so they are going cheap!

subs are e handy thing to have when the missus starts complaining about how much iv spent on the golf
-
i also meant in my previuos comment the ones that take up the whole boot !
-
i dont think golfs really need subs, the sound from my standard gamma cd player is really good
-
i found the standard stereo sounded well i just found myself needing that little bit more bass, i think a sub enhances the sound and just makes it more enjoyable, all depends what your into
-
Can't listen to music in a car without a sub, and saying they are chavvy is like saying, "oh you have a cd player thats chavvy that is"
-
thanks 4 all the advice are survey says yes about subs then!!!
my next question is do i piut them both in or should i just have the one? i dont want to overdo it but going by your answer's i think u will say both!!!

I dont think its chav. I have a lil 8" one that gives just enough bass to make it sound decent without being over the top. I have to say in my next car when i eventually finish college and start earning some decent money i'll have 2 12"ers in the boot  for looks and bragging rights more than actual bass as most can be turned down when the bass isnt needed!

get em both in. why have one when you can have too. someone correct me if im wrong but in that box them 2 probably share the same air space so runnin one wil not sound good.

I had a 12 and a 15 in my boot, sounded awesome, the 12 for the punch and the 15 for the deep notes!
Probably just have one in now though to save weight, keep me faster

im sure there have been a debate on this in the past about wether the 12 would cancel the 15 and the 15 would cancel the 12.
-
Yeah and I said that it didnt. As soon as the wires came out of the 12 you could proper hear the difference and vice versa.
I would recommend both to anybody tbh!

Im not for or against this by the way as iv never heard them together, the difference may be minimal. i can understand both points and have to say im swayed towards the science side in that the amps for both subs would have to output the same signal at exactly the same time so as not to distort. also, a 12 is going to be faster than a 15 so the 12's cone will be on the way back while the 15 is still on the way out. there is a lot of things against this, i have however heard a 10 and a 15 together and they sound pants.
personal preference.
-
I have only ever heard my 2 together and I think it sounds the nuts, I could put one in and sell the other one but I just think both together are good!
-
Hey - If you like the sound of em thats all that matters. I tend not to listen to all people say, thats why iv got 2 sets of comps, front and rear.
-
where did you put your tweeters & crossovers in the back?
-
not sure if yours is 3 or 5 door but mines 3.
Took off rear quarter cards. used original pods for woofer and slightly reshaped the original tweeter pods which point slightly backwards so not to contaminate the setup in the front. My crossover just happens to fit directly into the pollystirene (spelling) surrounding for the woofer. If it doesnt there is a cavity behind the speaker pod (presuming its 3dr) you could put it in and tape it to the cars shell.
Hope that makes sense, if it doesnt let me know and ill try and explain it a little better.
