hi guys
I own a mark 4 which i have remapped to 200 bhp.
The next thing I would like to sort out is the wallowing suspension. Im not overly bothered about the car looking likes it been lowered or not but I would prefer a much tighter set up - however, i dont want something so tight every bump becomes a painful issue. anyone got any good ideas and also where I can take the car to get it all sorted out.
Ive read huge amounts on the forums on this but I obviuolsy do not have the exact answers Im looking for. Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

i've got a 40mm gmax kit on mine which has done wonders to the handling, it was a bit of a harsher ride to begin with but you get used to it, gonna be rougher with any tougher suspension, down to how tight you want the ride compared to what you can put up with bump wise
where abouts are you?
what kind of budget are you looking at cus i looked at a set of adjustable koni's so you can choose just how tight it is but you pay for it

Im in bristol (and also wales on the weekends) - budgets not so much of a concern really. I don't mind paying if the set ups worth paying for. I'd be happy if the handing was comparable to other hatches, for example the ST, the newer GTI, the older pug 205s etc but not so much if the car becomes uncomfortable for longer drives. I appreciate theres a balance but thats exactly what Im after (the best balance). At the moment the handling is aweful

well as i said mine is lowered 40mm on a tighter ride and handles like a dream, i think the best i found looking around was the koni adjustables, i'll have a look and see if i can find where they were from and which ones they were
it's fine on longer drives, i'm in ipswich and drove to newcastle for christmas and was fine, good fun racing my uncles x-type too

i was looking at venom motorsport, they've got the koni coilovers which are perfect if you want to choose the ride height but if you're worried about how bumpy it's gonna be the ssk set is damping adjustable but with a set height
either of those would be my choice with no budget limit but i'm sure they are people on here with a lot more experience than me
hope that helps a little

cheers, theres so much conflicting information on the forums its difficult to know what to go for.
guess ill see who else has uprated theres and see what they think.
if you have had your suspension done please say what youve had done and what you think. if its not as you expected please do say.....

ok - ooops! me again (with the slooow mk3!)
got new koni adj coilovers the other day - again form tuning werkes - and have to say that they are the b0llocks!
am so pleased with them... like you I wasn't in it for the slamming as I have muchos speed bumpage on way to and from work... but with the adj konis I can slam it for shows...
the major difference I have noticed is with the handling... it is a different car now... corners like it is on rails and doesn't slide round roundabouts... have just started playing with the limits on how far I can go with it and I am able to push it much further than I imagined...
yes the ride is slightly harder... but my bushes previously were knackered... the suspension harshness you get used to in the first three or so miles... and it isn't so much that it is harsh... just quicker and more responsive over the bumps if that makes sense?
ride height pics etc are on my thread http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=73773.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=73773.0)

First of all I should point out that I thought my mk3 was rubbish. lots of flat spots and seriuolsy lacking in power. it was the slower version made at the time. This doesnt transpire to having a dig at anyone elses. I was hugely disappointed as I think it was a high insurance group as well.
and GTI guy thanks fpr adding to the thread appraciate your comments, i recall the handling on the mk3 was better anyway that the softer mark 4 set up.
ill have a look at your thread with the pics on a little later. do you know what make is in the mark iv as standard ?
