Stuff it - Superchips is the official tuner for Volkswagen racing - Sorry TT read your well informed stuff - It's in the post!
Now as for forge DV - Should maybe change the poll to who has replaced it?

APR tuned. Forge DV on order. Carbonio fitted. Full Milltek on order. Neuspeed torque insert ordered.

Suspension, brakes, intercooler and LSD being considered.

Very similar to Hurdy's, but with suspension, brakes and roll bars see below.

Outa 12 lookin like MTM and APR are the least popular!

Whats that?

Well my bluefin fitted now - car is deffo in EVO realms! There is a noticeable loss of torque low down but not much and certainly not a prob. What you loose low down you more than make up from 3k - 4k onwards - absolute monster for a front wheel drive! You can deffo see why tyres wear out quickly, all that power certainly makes them work and the car does have a noticeable bit of torque steer now - however not as much as you'd expect for 300+hp!
Had a wee blast on the maiden run behind a 997 C4 - he was pushin it but I think not really properly going for it - prob didn't think a Golf would not be that quick - the Golf had plenty of reserve and i have no doubt it would keep up if it were at full chat!

Never seen 14.9 MPG before though!!!!!!

One thing that does make me think mmmmm (apart from how can it be this good for so cheap!) is the fact that it now sounds there is a wee bird under the bonnet as it initially spools up - no doubt the turbo is working harder - anybody know what capacity it runs at (ie what safety factor is  left) with 300hp????? - whats the longevity - Superchips say its fine but......

Russ.C does yours make this noise?

I would be interested in hearing your opinion on that if you get it. I had an uprated dog bone mount on my 1.8T and thought that the cabin and dash was attached directly to the engine after it was fitted due to the vibration, but it did do a good job of reducing tramp associated with too much power to the wheels.

Yeah it does, I think I posted something about it before but didn't explain it very well - but now I come to think of it it does sound like a bird! Quite high pitched, and you can still hear it with windows up (radio off), its never bothered me though. But as you say, who knows about longevity  :undecided: I suppose its a risk you take with any remap.

I asked Superchips about this and they confirmed their car does it too and has done for 'many thousands too'
Warranty covers all the components that a VW warranty does so happy days - just make sure you extend it for the £70 after the initial 12 months.

Apparantly their car on tesco 99 is running 330hp!!!

330!?! WOW  I must admit I'm really tempted to get mine on the RR just to satisfy my curiosity! Glad to hear about their motor making the 'bird' whistle to! Also I'm interested in this extended warranty for £70. First I've heard of it, did they tell you that over the phone as I'm sure it didn't detail that on the website - maybe I didn't read the small print!? Definately worth it for the peace of mind.

Over the phone - I've been really digging about wrt the warranty as their statement allways surrounds an 'approved technitian' which could be a handy loophole as 'you' bluefined it yourself - but no the car IS covered.  Drop them a mail on the extentable - so long as your car has FSH you'll be fine.

The noise is from the turbo - do any of the other REVO / APR guys have this???

One thing though is that the cars that Superchips deal with in the VW racing series are limited to 250hp - their based on normal GTI's not the ED30 engine - Just leaves a question mark over the transmission, however in road use it shouldn't get anywhere near the sustained loads as a race car

Their car has done 5k on the conversion

Dont be sold by pub talk figures though guys. Its only all too often someone gets a remap done and ends up with a huge bhp or ft-lb figure, and that could be down to any number of reasons including;

Type of rolling road
How the car was tied to/ran on the rolling road
Amount of boost being used on the map
Type of fuel used
etc
etc

However most importantly is the actual way the car delivers its power.

I have seen a graph for a BWJ engined car (Cupra/Ed30) on an otherwise standard car that spiked at 340ft-lbs then fell away progressively to approx 100ft-lbs less by the high end of the rev range.

Some tuners manage to maintain approx 300ft-lbs across the rev range on the same engine therefore has more "usable" torque all of the time instead of a kick up the ass, a massive amount of wheelspin then a big tail off.

However as far as pub talk is concerned, the car with 340ft-lb would be the one people said "wow" to.

Same thing is possble for power where the peak power is too high too early or the power plot may be all over the place, but the "number" associated with it happens to be high.

You have to choose your map based on your own preferences, but for many they would include;

Location/Availability
Price
Perceived opinion from others/press
Reputation and quality (ie do we know that the car is not running lean toward the top end of the revs)
Switchability and no flash counter increase
etc

I was expecting more than that! Mines done somewhere between 7 & 8k!

No nothing like the noise you describe with APR

gazbutmk5gti has the ECS equivalent fitted and said it is better in the MKV.

It certainly sounds better than in a MK4, I didn't really notice any more vibration or harshness in either of my Gti's. Although it does struggle to completely stop the wheel hop in the ED30. It did stop it completely in the remapped regular Gti though.
