Title: fault code reader

i'm thinking of getting a fault code reader for my'88 8v digifant campaign..i've searched the forum for advice and still i can't find what i need...i need a system that will run with a mac laptop...any advice would be uber cool!...i've found the link to ebay for the interface cable...i take it that my car will need obd1 system...true or false?

I don't think it works with ODB at all.  Mk3's were the first golf with a connector iirc.

Wont work on a mk2 so is a complete waste of money
