Title: Central locking remote control battery
Post by: DEEN on 20 January 2008, 08:44
Found out how to change the battery on my Mk V golf locking remote (Australian model)  by reading Graham's query on his Mk IV posted July 15th 2004... thanks.

The battery is a Sony lithium 3V, CR2032 for those who want to buy a replacement first
To take the thing apart,
the flip spring-loaded bit with the metal "key" (front half) and the key-ring (back half) pull apart.  You need to flip the key out, grip the front half and get a good grip of the back half and just pull. (http://
To assist the process (which takes a bit of force) flip open the key and put a small flat driver into the 3mm recess.
Note: you do not need to flick off the VW logo and unscrew the tiny screw inside as you cannot get to the battery compartment from there.

Good luck

Yep same as my dads passat - I would try and avoid using the screwdriver to "assist" the process as it leaves some nasty marks
