hey guys,
i am going to be changing the colour of my car, aswell as fettling with it
here it is in its current guise:
here is my vision:
parts ordered:
r32 replica bumper in abs plastic
r32 5dr skirts (fibreglass)
anniversary rear splitter(fibreglass)
tailgate and genuine r32 spoiler
badgeless grille
3"down pipe and decat
o2 sensor spacer
abd t.i.p
genuine vw centre, left and right r32 bumper grilles
genuine vw r32 dirt shield extensions
coilovers
wheels
aero wipers
zena racing pipes
fmic
mbc
the plan:
from the front:
r32 bumper, debadged bonnet( welded in fill), rear door handles removed, rear bumper smoothed rub strips, but not the splitter. then a full colour change
i have colours in mind but i will keep the newest findings secret, but it will now be a xirillic pigment which are mega £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£33 lol
and i think thats it
ps this was the last respray i did:

and maybe a car some of you may have seen???

this is a running progress, im actually up to the build up stage now, to see the original thread look here
http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/2/1113205/ShowThread.aspx
everything else is pastence lol
managed to spend a little time on the car this aft,
i was going to remove the boot handle completely, then i saw v2slo's boot where he just had the handle showing, this got me thinking,
i was going to get a 3rd tailgat, remove the lock and keep the handle, then use part of the tailgate to make it look like factory, but then i decided against,
v2slos car was fine, apart from i think the handle was off centre, and as im keeping the vw logo i had to move mine across

spent this dinner time plastic welding the rear bumper up, took an age lol.
still needs a good old grinding, but the piece is stuck in there lol. tommorrow dinner i'll get the bigger grinder out and hopefully

i think the key is tying things in to each other, little details make a big difference.
i mean im also tying a carbon theme in too, i have carbon mirrors, then im hoping to use carbon for the door black outs, then i just bought this to tie up inside
(http://i9.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/a4/eb/b6d2_1_b.JPG)

intercooler came in, looks mint, need to decide where its going though,
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P140108_1709.jpg)
im 90% sure im staying with white, yousee the problem is pearls work by having light shone upon them, now on a cloudy day, the car will look like a solid white, on a sunny day it will glisten. and at night it will glisten too.
i am happy with the ground colour, as its bright white, the pearl is going to be the sfx pigment, just more of it.
on a side note get a corrado- there is a mint purple one near me, its super sweet.
and on another side note, i have just bought some jamex coilovers-yeah.
now can i just get drop links or do i need an anti roll bar, and if so does anyone have one????????
suede arrived this morning, for the roof lining, looks really nice, another job to the list hahaha
got the car ready for the shuts to be done tonight (hopefully) loads of work in at the momonet hahah
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P170108_1321.jpg)
i fitted my carbon gear leaver and gaitor, i aslo trimmed 1.5" off the gear leaver to give it a shorter through, a lot better than wasting umpteen £Â£Ã‚£'s on a short shifter, did this mod to the lcr and it works a charm lol
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P170108_201301.jpg)
got the car parts edged up, and put on. well most of them, tomorrow the boot lid goes on as does the rea bumper nd bonnet, then its time to flatand paint
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P180108_1750.jpg)
i started prepping the car at 12, im now onto the first coat of clear,

-
the bumper is from germaniatec off german ebay, very good fit, but they package them bad and it squaches them, but a little bake in the oven makes them pop back into shape,
total i have spent about £500-£700 on all the bits, like bumper, coilovers wheels etc.
i hope to get some of that back as im selling my wheels and my old suspension as they have fk springs fitted (£70)
the gear knob n gaitor were again ebay
jake

pm him then
-
Just finished a long night of car mods, the full decat is on along with the lambda spacer, then i put the rear stright through pipe and exhaust tip on,
fmic is pretty much plumbed in, i need to get some more hose clips and do a few minor adjustments to get it sitting perfect, also had enough pipe left to relocate the airfilter to the bumper, cai style.
and thats about it, piccies

i think is shorter the route the better the efficacy is ... so it maybe worth tryin to re-route the layout .....
-
hey guy's.
nearing the end now haha yeah right,
got the front bumper mounted, but really not happy with it, im guna chop and make it fit alot better, then i have some adjustments to do on the bonnet and grill to make that shut perfect, a few rubbers and the petrol flap to go on and its time to polish it,
took it for a quick drive to settle the suspension before they get adjusted, it sounds evil lol and spools up pretty much the same as before which is nice, although i have had a part to play in that ;)

looks awesome mate
only thing I'd do if it was my car would be paint the grille black instead of white and get a set of anni headlights, but its not my car lol
-
carbon ring came in, so i have fitted that
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P290108_140002.jpg)
and as a bonus. they gave me the bit in the centre that they cut out, so im turning that into a tax disc holder
-
Must agree with all of you looks excellent. Like the way you have removed the rear door handles. just out of curiosty how do you open them?
-
just from the interior handle, there wasn't much point in making a sophisticated popper. the only thing that goes in the back is my hockey bag haha
heres a mock up of the carbon grille, ala insulation tape haha
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P290108_1711.jpg)
thinking the white grille stays
and the carbon tax disc holder
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/cuprajake/P290108_1734.jpg)
jake
-
That looks well good
-
like the tax disc holder lol
-
well tried towrap the grill in carbon, but i only had a bit left and it had a bit of dried resin on the back, it looked ok but started to lift once the resin was applied, so i scrapped that idea and just painted it a pearl black lol
pics of the carbon process anyway, the trouble you have with carbon is it unwinds real easy lol

that is f**king awesome!!! i'm going to attempt a full respray of my mk2 in feb half term in my dads garage (actual house garage that you keep cars in e.g. 'destined for failure' sort of garage )... so i'm going to looking for a 'similar quality' finish. maybe we should share our spraying tips :smug: (hint hint cough cough )?
p.s. never actually attempted a full respray... just bodged my grandma's wheel arch once when she decided she liked using the car to open her front gate! how hard can it be, get a decent tub of emulsion and a thick brush jobs a gooden.

hey very nice mk 4 one of the best ive seen on these forums but then again i dont read that much just check out the classifieds but im slowly getting there.
The red trim on the boot interior looks awesome and you reminded me how good white is on a car, My gtr was pearl white and i loved it.
Im also trying to do most of my mods myself but not sure how far ill get. would like to know where you got your black trim that goes around the stereo and inside door handles from or did you just use a good quality paint?
-
just came across this build thread very nice, alot of work been put in there as well looks good :) did you consider removing the rub strips on the doors?
