When picking up my new ED30 for the dealers the other day they informed me that Volkswagen have started taking orders again for the ED30 due to the popularity of the car, to be honest I think it never stopped. What happened to the 1500 units only coming to the UK?? They'll be like bloody Vectra's soon!!
-
i personally think the standard gti has been replaced with the ED30. Who buys the standard these days????

Yeah I totally agree with you there....when you can get fully discounted UK spec imports it is hardly a limited Special Edition anymore.
Having owned both a standard and now an ED30 I can honestly say that the ED30 engine is, and sounds, so much "gruntier".
I'm not surprised it is achieving 244bhp on rolling roads as standard...well worth the extra £ alone IMO.
-
Having just received our ED30 this week, I'm not surprised by this news... it's a sign that the ED30 really hits the spot for a blend of performance and reasonable fuel efficiency, all with a nice premium feel to it (especially in white  )
What will it mean for second hand values? I'm not sure it'll matter. It's a damned desirable car, and I hope they're still pumping them out in 2 years so that people will be keen to get their hands on a rare early version!
-
fuel efficiency
i dream of this like most people dream of other things
-
So, does this mean that all of the customers who bought into the "1500 only sir"...."will hold its value better because of it sir"....."ooooh, suits you sir!" will have any grounds for going back to the dealer to get some kind of compensation?

MMM where was that VW Pdf that someone posted saying that the numbers were limited to 1500 units. Where is my solicitors phone number.......
-
You know what'll happen though don't you :undecided:
This is the ED30 version II, it has a different retainer spring in the rear XXX and so isn't the same at all your honour!
The fact that it is 99.999999999999999999999% the same would probably mean jack sh!t
-
If I remember tomorrow I might give a random VW dealer a call and ask if they are still taking orders.
VW should have numbered the cars like the last Anni. Look at Vauxhall Astra VXR Nürburgring Edition thats limited and numbered. :embarassed:
-
I have no doubt that if the Ed30 had been out when I ordered my GTI I'd have bought one. The Ed30 is more the car that the standard GTI should be (which is still excellent!).
-
According to the register, there are only 75 people registered and one of those is in New Zealand and another has registered twice.
Not bad when you consider that there are 95 for sale on Autotrader
-
In all honesty I think a lot of the dealers bought into the "1500 cars" line.
After the last anni car, which was limited and those limits honoured, what reason would they have to think otherwise.
I suspect that VW are actually the ones who will be to blame... They're the ones making them.
The dealers themselves will only get a handful each, and then each salesman will sell a subset of that.

shouldnt 2008 models be edition 31 :nerd:

In that case I'll wait until 2015 for the Edition 38 model. Now that would be a well modded car
-
Thinking about it...1500 is quite a lot...in the US of A...the R32 is limited to 5000...but do you really think they will sell 5000 before the next R is out??

My bloody sentiments exactly! Feel a wee letter to Crydon is on it's way - fat load of use it will do but still - this is not good For value retention.
I have noted as well the new £19.5k imports in Right hand drive - where does this put the value / rarity of the car? This equals VW at it and rather blatantly in mind - all premeditated hence the no number plaque decisions!

The GTI Fahrenheit was also limited to 1200 and that was numbered also.
-
i had no doubt from the beginning that E30 was not a limited edition.
it is limited only by date of Mk6 production start, maybe

Ah, the 'European Treaty is not the Constitution' defence!
I don't think it worked for Gordon Brown
(Oops sorry. Just a bit of politics )

If more people are buying the ED30 over the standard GTI, won't that make the standard GTI more 'exclusive'?

Hi guys, been checking out the site for some time now and it’s great news that the Ed 30 is back on sale. Checked with my dealers today and it’s all true they’re available to order (however only alloted 1 per month).
I’ve been running around in a 4-motion V6 now for 6+ years and love it... however it’s time to change.
Need to check out the black german rims (Detroits/Rockinghams) as they look ace especially on a white car.
Take it easy... Hotrod

Me

I didnt buy it for this reason, i just prefered the GTi, but it does seem like everyone feels they have to have the ED30 and as such the standard un-colour coded GTi's could end up being rarer.
-
It no longer states on the VW website either that the Edition 30 is to be limited to 1500 model.....
-
Theres now more ed30s than standard gtis where i stay good news for us gti drivers, the gti will soon be the more exclusive car lol.
-
Personally, I don't care which version of the GTI is the rarest - They are ALL great cars. You could argue that a modded GTI is the rarest of all because it's totally unique
-
Shed a tear for all those speculators who slammed down deposits on the E46 M3 CSL, very very limited rumours of only 100 for the UK, then BM went and made a car for every deposit!! That came to 422 for the UK........expensive mistake.
At least ED30 owners are not nursing those losses........who last got a decent residual?
Enjoy the cars for what they are, then gulp at trade in time......we never win!
-
Spoke to the dealerr principle, he also said that they can take orders for the ED30 again. Sounds like they have decided to carry on the ED30 for the moment, since they canned the Pirrelli GTI at the end of last year.
He said that they have an allocation for 4 for this next year. However, they are having real trouble getting allocation slots for build dates. Mmmm.
I mentioned that they were only meant to be limited in numbers. He brought up the VW get out clause of
"The specifications contained in this brochure are for
information purposes only and are subject to change. If you
require any specific feature, you must consult your authorised
Volkswagen retailer who is regularly updated with any change
in specification. Please check model availability and full
specification details with your authorised Volkswagen retailer
prior to ordering."
How can they change it from a limited edition to mainstream model. I know that they can. When I bought it it was. Does it come under the description of goods act.
Description of goods
The trading standards team check goods and services are correctly described eg advertisements for holidays, houses and cars. The team look out for counterfeit clothing and cassettes and selling second-hand items as new. Complaints where businesses falsely claim to be members of trade associations are also investigated.
Consumer rights when buying goods
We all have rights when buying goods as a consumer, from a trader. Whilst there are several laws which protect those rights, the main ones are:
The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended)
The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982
Whenever you buy goods, or agree to have a service you are making a contract with a trader.
The trader must (according to The Sale of Goods Act 1979 ) provide you with goods which are:
of satisfactory quality - this means reasonably durable, safe, fit for their intended purpose, free from minor defects and of reasonable appearance and finish
fit for the purpose - as well as being fit for the purpose for which they are generally sold, goods should also be fit for any specific or particular purpose made known at the time of the agreement
as described to you - goods should correspond with any description applied to them. This could be verbally, words or pictures on a sign, packaging or an advert.
