Title: Quick head bolt size question
Post by: paultownsend on 16 January 2008, 23:37
completely stipped my engine apart from the head.and the trusty halfords 150pc has finally let me down!
the head bolts need a torx bit (i think). these come in 45, 50, 60!  what size do i need to undo the bolts? want to get my head sent off monday for its bigger valves

its a 12pint spline tool you need, not sure what size though.  Get yourself a set and make sure they're the long reach ones.  If you already have new head bolts take one in with you!

I got a set from halfords, only issue was they weren't long reach and they wont actually fit in the head to get to some of the bolts   I had to bash the spline bit out of the holder and glue it into a narrower socket.  Thats why deep reach is what you want ;)

draper do a kit sold at gsf which has an extension and spline for head and driveshafts! with club discount works out at less that a £5'r!
head nows ready for its bigger exhaust valves. ooooooooh. decided to keep the low milage pb block i got, very very minimal bore wear, with p&p head with matched inlet and exhaust manifolds, throttle body, bigger exhaust valves and loghtened fly. two very friendly welsh chaps are helping me out

should be a cheeky engine
