Post by: richard s on 16 January 2008, 21:20
i need to change my steering lock housing due to the bearing having some play in it but to do this i assume i have to remove the spline adaptor as my car is a 89model gti is this right if so once spline adaptor is removed what is the best method of refiting it

I  used a suitable sized socket on top of the sline adapter and hit it with a copper headed hammer. Worked ok.

(The copper hammer just meant I wasn't damaging things)

I assume you meant you hit the actual column and not the adaptor, hitting the adaptor with a hammer wouldnt do anything ;)

I hit the column to reome the spline adapter and put the socket on top of the spline adapter and hit it to push the spline adapter back onto the column.

Does that make sense

ah i see, refitting! I should read things properly

when I do it I just put the wheel on and do the nut up tight, that does the trick!
