right i've got a gti grill with the quad lamps but i hav a 1.3 so there aren't any connections to plug the centre main beam lamps in. do you know what colour the main beam wires are and can i take them and split them in two and then send one to the outside lamp and one to the centre lamp? aslong as i put the lamps in parralel it wont affect the intensity is that right?
cheers

The way I did it to my old 1.3 was to buy a relay like you would use if you were fitting a set of aftermarket spotlamps and wired it in. I forget which wire it was, but I got a light bulb and soldered a wire to the + and one to the earth of thebulb. Put the earth wire to a piece of metal on the car and then the other wire to each connection on the headlight bulb. Then you will see which ones comes on on full beam... Hope that makes sense?

Easy....sell the 1.3 and buy a GTI

I'm pretty sure my 1990 1.3 did, can't remember where they were hidden though!

Think the wire you are after is black with a white trace, check first though :)

vw sell adaptor looms for this purpose, I managed to find one in a 1.3 in my local scrappy. It plugs into the H4 plug and splits off to another H4 plug and a spotlight plug. Get yourself a multimeter before you start messing about with electrics, they arn't expensive!
Put the dipped beam on and check each pin for 12v, the one that isnt brown and doesn't have 12v is the main beam wire!
However, now is an ideal time to buy/make an uprated headlight loom, you'll get better light output, plus you wont have to chop up any of the factory loom!
