Title: Colour coding example pics
Post by: makzimum on 15 January 2008, 16:08
Hi there!

Been scouring the forum looking for examples pictures from people that have colour coded their bumpers and skirts on the standard GTI.  Can't seem to find any at the moment, anyone got any links or pictures they can post?  I'm particularly wanting to see it done on a Tornado Red model with the cut out on the rear bumper left black.  Anyone done this?

Except for the wheels (which I used to have before switching back to 18 Monza's) that is exactly how I want my car to look... the back valance is done... just need to get the front (is that a votex fornt lip) and side skirts when funds allow!!!!
Lovely looking and shows off just how good red can look!

I really really like that Red GTI in the link for some reason?? More of a reason to look forward to a TR R32  The dude should try and get a carbon fibre front thingi from OSIR and the VW Badge aswell...think that should finish it off, its still very very nice!

I don't think so, I've had my ed30 parked next my mates std gti, and the ed30 rear valance looks miles ahead of that cheap looking wedge of plastic you get on std gti's and golfs. my mate didn't agree until he looked at them side by side and went green with envy  :smug: the red gti posted by WhiteGTI looks sh*t hot!!  really liking the 19's on it!

those unpainted plastic bumpers look naff!
Colourcoding makes the car look more fuller as the light reflects off the paint and does make the gti look as if there is a body kit on it. Makes the car look lower in the night aswell!

Some very nice examples being posted here - must say it makes the car look much more finished.  Definitely have to consider it for mine when cash allows!

Also komendra how do you find the APR Remap? I think this is the one for me as I have the cruise control fitted and like the switchable option this gives.

Komenda,
272,,I like,,, torque? Also, how long did it take you to fit the intercooler?

Torque was 294. Not expecting much of a difference in power from the intercooler, just a precaution really to keep the temperaturedow n as much as possible.

I collected my GTi last week, been driving everywhere just for the sake of it to get some miles on it. Not really had time to post anything on here till now.
I did briefly consider the ED30, but having seen both i prefered the look of the GTi, interior, wheels and the bumpers.
It's each to their own but i honestly think the unpainted parts look really good, nobody is going to confuse a GTi with a 1.6FSi, because the bottom of the bumper is unpainted, but i personally couldn't care if they did.
The way things are going with the amount of ED30's being sold and people colour coding GTi's the original GTi's will soon become the more exculsive of the two.

....You make a good point. I'm sure that in time (probably many years) the totally original Mk5 GTI's will be more sought after just as 'original' Mk1 & 2's are now.

As a designer, I never liked the deep black rear bumper on my red GTI and when I was offered in 2005 one of the first Milltek quad exhausts it was a no-brainer but then meant I had to change the rear valance....Which in turn eventually meant colour coding the sides and then front.
