Post by: vin1.8t on 15 January 2008, 10:34
sorry if its been asked before.
ive got the temp warning light flashing the temp is normal and the botle is at the right level
i took it into my local garage thay had a look round and said everything is ok, it must be a fault in the dash.
has anyone come across this problem before?
if so how did you fix it?
i was going to get a new display but didnt know if it would fix the problem
thanks for any help

It's a classic fault which LOADS of mk2's have, the light is the low coolant level warning. Normally it's the sensor that gets covered in crud after all these years but it could also be a dodgy contact in the instrument cluster. On a gti the sensor should be screwed into the top of the expansion bottle, remove it and clean the prongs. If it's still bad the replace it, it's a 5minute job. If the problem still persists after that then you'll have to clean all the contacts to the cluster.
