Alright, someone settle this argument for me...
Got a mate of mine trying to choose between an 8v and 16v Mk2 GTi. He very rarely drives over 70mph, and he's driving a Vauxhall Nova 1.0 right now - I reckon for the insurance savings and the fact he's not really gona use the power of the 16v, he shoul djust take the 8v and enjoy it in the lower gears.
Opinions?

he doesnt drive over 70 cos hes got a 1 litre nova, not cos he doesnt want to ;D
this has been discussed loads of times so look at the old threads.

dnt think you need to drive over 70 these dyas. specialy if he doesnt go on the motorway.
8v cheap on petrol than the 16v?

LOL :D Tell him to go for it 16v ! I bet it doesn't take him long to go over 70 if he buys either ;D

let him drive both and then decide
-
gotta agree with gambit here, try a few of each

If I'd had known what a 16v feels like to drive I would of bought one ages ago. just the extra on the insurrance and the decent 8v that I had the chance to buy took me down the 8v route. if I wasn't already started with this 20vT I'd be looking at dropping in a fiddled 16v lump. so much fun and buckets more power than the 8v even though mine's one of the faster 8v's.

I've had the best of both worlds, i did have an 8v and to be honest they are more fun round the streets with having the torque and the power in low gears but the 16v are much faster especially when they have a better air filtersand a full exhaust systems then to finish it off with a dyno tune then they fly, trust me! ;D
Again the the 16v is 1 group higher with the insurance which is 15 and the 8v's are 14.
If i was you i would test drive both and see what you think!! ;)

dizzie what audi throttle body can i put on my 8v digi? do you know? ???

ohh thats weird, mk3 8v is group 14 as well , but the mk3 16v is group 16 (vr6 is group 16 too)

He should experience rides in both cars both b4 making a final decision. How deep is his pocket, though? ;D
