Title: Windscreen de-mister/blower not working....help !!!!
Post by: wurth on 12 January 2008, 18:26
Hello

when you slide the nob on the heater and directional switch on my mk2 gti 8v (1991) , air dosent come out of the front vents (on top of the dash) to heat/de-mist the front windscreen. It comes out all of the other vents and works perfectly otherwise.
Has anybody any idea what the problem is.
Thanks

Does the air flow direction lever feel very stiff or very light? That lever adjusts a cable/cog arrangement to move the air flaps around.

Its probably either the cable has snapped, come off the fixing point, or a cog has fallen off.

On mine, if you take out the stereo you can see the start of the cables, so check there first. Then whip off the centre console and passenger shelf to see the bottom of the cables and cogs. Haynes details this quite well.

Hope that hasn't happened to mine. It works, but it is pathetic!

a common problem on the golf II's, and also the heating that doesn't work is a classic
And that is what I'm having at this time, and the little heater has been changed - but no good, will have to look further at this
