Title: RedDotRacing remap
Post by: OutlawStar on 12 January 2008, 15:36
my mate has had his motor re-mapped at RedDot racing in Watford and said it was good, although i havent seen his car yet. i called them up and they offered me a fantastic price, saying i should see around 200ish BHP from the process. Has any one else had there car done here, and what is too cheap for chipping/remapping etc? they are saying they can do it for 275 rolling road and all.

without the bits what would it of cost, ive bought a oo7p so that added a ton to it, and a silicon hose kit..... im trying to understand why the prices vary so much, i dont want to get mugged here!

from what i've read, understood, experienced; the reasons why prices vary are due to the depths of changes made by the remaps.

The cheaper end of the market tend to only alter things like boots etc and not take into account other variables.  the more expensive maps alter much more in order to retain engine longetivity, driveability

Best bet is to speak to the tuner about the parameters he will be changing.  Find out what the remap alters.  If its simply turning up the boost then walk away as this will blow your turbo and or engine in no time!!

what are the other parameters that would constitute a remap that takes into consideration driveability and longevity? i have no experiance of mapping so im in the dark here! are there any questions i can ask to identify a bad egg tuner?

hmm taking a bit of a stab here but:

fuel mixture
ignition timing
boost pressure
injector opening times

personally i'd stick with the well known brands such as Revo, Custom Code, etc as they have greater resources and development ploughed into their maps to ensure the best gains without killing your engine.

Have a drive of your mates as you may find that you don't like the power delivery of the remap.  Some offer the power in one big lump whilst others smooth out the torque curve to ensure power right up to the red line

i dont know what to do now, i cant afford the likes of a 500pound jabba/revo map, surely they arent the only option, im going to go to reddot on thursday, even if i dont get it done i can have a chat with the guys there and see what there plans are and get a feel for how they operate! At least i'll get her on the rollers finally! i'll let you guys know how it goes, hopefully alot faster

I would agree with rhyso TBH, People like revo, custom code are tried tested and a lot of money have been spent on research. Anyone can mess around with a computer and make a car quicker but its having the knowledge to make it work correctly and  maintain reliability.
Custom code are doing the 1.8T (150bhp Non dbw) for £300 + the vat

its even less than that mate as there's currently 30% off until the end of January!!

Mine was £312 all in  :smug:

So for Custom Code you'd be looking at £246.75 all in!!
