Title: mk2 gti power steering
Post by: Marlon on 11 January 2008, 19:08
HI guys,

I'm thinking of getting a mk2 gti for some road rallying, but due to a disability I need power steering if I'm going to be competative for long distances. I was wondering what the feel was like as other systems of the era are just way too assisted - whats the golf one like, any feel at all?

I have power steering cause I'm a wussy girl, but I think it's very good really, plenty of feedback.

I know it's a crap comparison but I had a mk3 fezza with pas and that was awful - not feel whatsoever, the golf was like heaven after that...

i'd agree i've got an escort   which has PAS its really light where as with the golf you can still feel the road.

My missus thinks my 16v'er with PAS is still very heavy.  I agree, its got loads of feel.

if you can get a 16v or G60 PAS rack, its quicker than the 8v racks they say.  All I know is my 16v rack feels exactly the same when driving as my old 8v manual rack did, but its much lighter when parking.

I'd agree with rub jonny...drove a few 8v's before grabbing the 16v and the 16v is nice and full of feedback, but when parking its still light enough for most peeps
