20k a year, your looking at problems regardless for any car that age...

I would budget to 1,500 and keep the rest for parts. Read "ALL" the buyers guides in the Mk2 Section and use the "Search" button at the top to find info on near enough anything to do with Golfs on the forum.

8v have 8 valves :p Higher torque than the 16v.
16v have 16 valves :p More high end power and gain at higher revs but less torque
What is a rainbow interior?
Do a google image search or again... Use the "Search" button at the top of the forum

If you have had your licence for a while, along with some NCB then yeah it will be pritty low. Sub 400-500 :)
Do they all have power steering?
No... But remember its an older car, just build your driving technique around it.. Remember you should always be moving whilst turning the wheels anyway...
Also want to attend shows in Hants area?
No idea...
Attempted to answer the questions the best possible way... :)

I'd dispute the 20k a year being problemati
I've been doing about 30k yr in my '95 fiesta which is a complete bucket and its never skipped a beat. Since VWs have a good rep surely it shouldn't be a problem if its serviced properly?
I guess its a case of suck it and see but there shouldn't be problems imho
In terms of Hampshire shows, I only know of the classic shows and not VW, depends what kind of stuff you are into - bet I could find something though with a bit of a look. (as always of course, google is your friend!)
