Title: Squeak
Post by: indublin on 10 January 2008, 12:17
Anyone have a squeak from the rear of there car?

I have this squeak which is reminiscent of my Pug CTi days. After a trip to the VW garage on the last service, I got the usual answer of “we found the squeak, it was the rear seat which needed tightening up!” comment. Long story short, the squeak was still present so I decided to investigate myself. The noise only happens when I go over a speed bump….. i.e. when the body flexes. It turns out the parcel shelf, “pin” the bit that fits into the slot on the car body. This “pin” I don’t know the correct word so am calling it the “pin” has a rubber ring round it and when I go over a bump the rubber on the “pin” rubs on the slot of the car, which is also rubber.
Now the question is this, what do you suggest I use to lubricate the two rubber parts and stop them from squeaking?

Silicone spray. It doesn't wear away easily, has no smell, isn't sticky, lasts long and it's cheap :nerd:
