Title: Wiring Loom help needed please!!
Post by: Gary_B on 10 January 2008, 11:59
Are the interior wiring looms the same in a 16v and 8v? The reason I’m asking is because I have been looking for a 16v full interior wiring loom since September, and haven’t come across anyone with one in tact; yet there seems to be an abundance of 8v looms knocking about! So if they’re the same then that’ll be a great help as I’ll be able to crack on with my 16 valver project!

I realise the engine looms won’t be the same, but that doesn’t matter as much.

Cheers

pretty much all interior wiring looms are the same, difference is the model year.  From 1990 the looms completly changed!  Also on pre-90 MK2s the clock loom has extra wires to the engine bay for the MFA functions, post 90 the clock loom is the same and you got extra wires in the engine bay looms.

Also the central locking and fuel pump looms run inside the main loom to the rear of the car, so you need to get that bit to match yours.  However, if you have a 16v, an 8v GTI loom will be identical, except it will be missing the ISV controller loom. As long as this is undamaged you'll be able to splice this in without much difficulty.

I forgot to add, if you have central locking and the donor loom does not, you can chop the cl bit out of your old loom and fit it.  The cl loom isnt actually pre/post 90 specific either :)
Oh and you need to take the vacuum line out of your old loom as well.  Its a fun job cos its all inside that chunky plastic loom wrap stuff, takes ages to chop it out

Hi I'm pretty sure the interior loom is the same on the 8v, 16v and the driver. Try asking rubjonny. If the driver is the same, contact chuff cos he has a complete driver that runs and drives up for sale for 100 quid mate.

So does the driver interior (90 spec) wiring loom have the fuel pump connections then? Reason I ask is I am converting my 89 golf GTI 8v to CE2 wiring as its getting a VR6 engine in it. I bought the interior loom from a driver you see, so just wondering. If not do I just remove the fuel pump wiring from my existing loom and spice into the new?

Does the fuel pump wiring run underneath the back seats to the top of the tank? Not had a look yet.

no the driver only has the wiring for the level sender.  the loom runs along the inner sill then out to the boot area :)
You can pull out all your old pump loom, only issue is you'll need to find some CE2 pins to fit into the pump plug, have a look at my fusebox faq and it'll show you where.

Cheers mate, have all your guide printed out, was a godsend labelling up the VR engine and clock looms ready for connection.

So looking at your guide the fuel pump plugs into position M with it sharing a plug with the fuel level sender and sunroof map reading light apparently..... Presumably my Driver loom will have two out of these 4 positions used in the multi plug so if I get a VAG wire repair kit then  simply plug my existing wires into the correct positions on that plug?

rubjonny, do you have the details about how to splice the idle controller into the interior loom? im putting a 16v into a 85 kjet 8v by the way if it makes a difference.
